Create, organise, and share traffic plans
My traffic plans library with Create plan, folders, Paid badge, and Traffic plans / Event plans tabs still — country, plan name, dates, Start planning motion — home → view all plans → library controls This page is the traffic plan as a document: create it in the right workspace, keep it findable, save it, and share a live link. Drawing and PDF files have their own articles. Use this when you need a new plan, a folder, a share URL, or a team owner. Skip it if you already have the map open and only need signs, layers, or export. Home, Plans, and the editor Home is / after login (Welcome back, your name). It is not the map. Choose Traffic Plan or Event Plan, or Continue with a previous plan. See all plans opens the library. Plans is the library for the current workspace. The editor is the full-screen map after Start planning or Open. The logo from the editor returns to Plans, not Home. Event plans have their own tab. A “missing” traffic plan is often the wrong tab or the wrong workspace — My plan does not appear in the list. Personal or organization You always have Personal. An organization is a separate team workspace. Check Switch workspace (account menu) before you create anything. New plans from Home go to the workspace you last opened. | | Personal | Organization | |---|--------------|----------------| | Library title | My traffic plans | Acme Events traffic plans (organization name + traffic plans) | | Who can open | You | Everyone with access to that workspace | | Who can change the plan | You | Only the assigned editor | Creating a plan in an organization makes you the assigned editor. Other members open it read-only until an Owner or Administrator uses Assign editor. Team rules: Organizations and members. If Switch workspace greys out a row, read This workspace is not currently available. (or Workspace not enabled yet, Organization unavailable). Workspace unavailable. Create a traffic plan 1. Confirm Switch workspace shows Personal or the organization you meant. 2. On Home, choose Traffic Plan. From Plans, Create plan starts the same form. 3. Set Country (required — this loads the sign catalogue). 4. Enter Plan name (placeholder My Traffic Plan). 5. Set Start date and End date. Complete both the date and the time. Start must be before end. 6. Click Start planning. The editor opens on the map. Rename later with the pencil next to the title (Edit project title). Dates stay in the header as Start date and End date. Country loads the sign catalogue. Dates appear on exports, and Show Melvin stays disabled until they are filled (Fill in a date to use this option). Older plans may show Continue your traffic plan and ask you to finish Country, Plan name, and Duration first (Continue planning). Validation: Select a country., Enter a plan name., Select a start date and time., Start date must be before end date, Complete the start date with a time. If create fails: Failed to create project. Please try again. / Could not create project. Success: Project created! Find and organise on Plans Plans library with search, New folder, Create plan, and the plans table Plans lists Name, Status, Updated, Plan period, and Actions. Search with Search plans or folders. Open a plan, or click its name row. Paid on a row means this plan is unlocked for unlimited signs. In an organization, Editor: Sam Rivera (the assigned editor’s name) shows who can change that plan. The ⋮ menu on a plan includes Open, Copy link, Move to folder, Duplicate, Delete, Move to organization (from Personal), and Assign editor (organization Owners and Administrators). Rename on the ⋮ menu is for folders, not plans. Rename a plan from the editor title. Empty list: No items found. Folders, search, breadcrumbs, and every library action: Folders and the library. Folders New folder opens Create folder. Enter Folder name, pick Location, then Save. Toast: Folder created. On a plan, Move to folder and pick a Destination (or No folder). On a folder you can Rename, Move folder, or Delete — delete only works when the folder is empty (Delete this folder? Make sure it is empty first. / Cannot delete folder while it still contains items.). Personal libraries use Folders; organization libraries use Shared folders. Go up one level returns to the parent. How the library works in full: Folders and the library. Move or copy into an organization From Personal, the plan menu Move to organization asks How should it go? Move (Recommended) leaves Personal; the public link stays the same. Copy keeps the plan in Personal and gives the organization a separate plan with a new public link. You cannot move a plan that is in municipality review (Under review — move unavailable); Copy is still allowed. You cannot move an organization plan back to Personal, or from one organization to another. The dialog, folder-move summary, and every toast: Move, copy, and assign editor. Assign an editor On an organization plan, Owners and Administrators open Assign editor. Choose Assigned editor (Choose an editor), then Save assignment. Everyone with workspace access can Open the plan. Only that assigned editor can change, duplicate, or delete it. Other members get Plan is read-only. If the assigned editor is suspended, nobody can edit until someone reassigns the plan. Full dialog and membership-inactive cases: Move, copy, and assign editor. Save In the editor: Auto-save and Save. The auto-save preference is stored on your account. Hover the switch for Auto-save: saving, Auto-save: unsaved changes, or Auto-save: saved. With auto-save on, Save is disabled (auto-save is enabled). Save is blocked for Plan is locked while under review, This plan is locked because it has been approved, or Plan is read-only. Wait for saved before you send a link or start a PDF. Title, dates, and every save toast: Auto-save, title, and dates. Share a live link Each traffic plan has a public address such as https://traffic-chart.com/traffic-plans/ plus the plan’s id. Anyone with that URL can view the map read-only. They do not need an account. 1. On Plans, Copy link. 2. Or in the editor click Export, then copy Sharable link (RECOMMENDED). 3. Send it to a colleague, municipality, or contractor. Sharable link stays up to date after you save. Many municipalities prefer that over a file. Use Export files only when someone asks for PDF or Excel — Export and print traffic plans. Treat the URL like a document you would email. Do not post it on public social media. If a link spread too widely, email customer@traffic-chart.com. Viewers can pan and zoom. They cannot place signs or save. What a public viewer sees: Share a plan and read-only view. What good looks like You are in the intended workspace. The title and dates match the works. Auto-save: saved (or you pressed Save). The people who must see the drawing have the share link, not a stale attachment. If something blocks you | Situation | Where to go | |-----------|-------------| | Plan not in Home or Plans | My plan does not appear in the list | | Map will not let you edit | I can’t open or edit a plan | | Sign limit or Paid questions | Billing, free use, and credits | | Need the map chrome | Tour of the traffic plan editor | Related articles - Find your way around - Folders and the library - Move, copy, and assign editor - Auto-save, title, and dates - Share a plan and read-only view - Workspace unavailable - Organizations and members - Tour of the traffic plan editor - Export and print traffic plans
Folders, search, and the plans library
Plans library with search, New folder, Create plan, and the plans table Plans is the filing cabinet for the workspace you are in. This page names every library control: search, folders, the table, the ⋮ menu, and the Event plans tab. Use it when you cannot find Demo traffic plan, need a folder such as Utrecht 2026, or the list looks empty. Skip it if you already have the map open — drawing is the editor, not this list. Creating a brand-new plan from a blank form is Create, organise, and share traffic plans. Plans library Open the right cabinet 1. Click your initials and first name. 2. Under Switch workspace, pick Personal or Acme Events. 3. Open Plans in the top bar. Home only shows recent work for the current workspace. The full list is Plans. A missing row is usually the wrong workspace or the wrong tab. My plan does not appear in the list. Traffic plans library Personal title: My traffic plans. Subtitle: Create, organize, and continue your personal traffic plans. Organization title: the organization name plus traffic plans, for example Acme Events traffic plans. Subtitle: Plans and folders shared with everyone who has access to this workspace. Search, New folder, Create plan Top right: - Search (screen-reader label). Placeholder Search plans or folders. Type part of a plan or folder name. Search still finds work inside folders. The × clears the box. - New folder — only if you can manage folders in this workspace. - Create plan — only if you can create traffic plans here. It opens the same create form as Traffic Plan on Home. If Create plan or New folder is missing, you do not have that permission in this workspace. An organization member who is not allowed to file work will still see plans they can Open. Breadcrumb The row under the title starts with All. Then the root of the cabinet: - Personal: Traffic Plans - Organization: Organization plans Click a folder name in the table to go in. Nested names appear after the root, separated by /. The last crumb is the folder you are in. Inside a folder, the first table row is Go up one level. All flattens the library so you see every plan, including those in folders. Plans then show the folder name under the title, or No folder. The table Columns: Name, Status, Updated, Plan period, Actions. Folder rows show the folder name and dashes in the other columns. Click the row to open it. Plan rows: | You see | What it means | |---------|----------------| | Title, for example Demo traffic plan | Click the row or Open to edit (if you may) | | Paid | Unlimited signs on this plan. It does not unlock every plan you own | | Editor: Sam Rivera | Organization only. The assigned editor for that plan | | No folder | The plan is not in a folder (when All or search is on) | | No review | No municipal review on this plan | | Submitted, Changes requested, Approved, Rejected | Review state. In-app Approved is not a legal permit | | No scheduled dates yet | No Start date / End date | | Starts plus a date, or Ends plus a date | Only one side of the period is set | | Start — end | Both dates are set | Empty library, empty folder, or a search that matches nothing: No items found. If the list cannot load: Could not load traffic plans. Folders failing separately: Could not load folders. Refresh, confirm Switch workspace, try again. Plan menu (traffic) Each plan has Open and a ⋮ menu. Plan actions menu Items you may see: - Copy link — public read-only URL. Toast Plan copied to clipboard! How the link behaves: Share a plan and read-only view. - Move to folder — submenu Destination. Pick a folder, or No folder to leave it at the root. Success toast Traffic plan updated. Failure Unable to move traffic plan. - Duplicate — a new plan named Copy of plus the original, for example Copy of Demo traffic plan. Toast Traffic plan duplicated. Paid does not carry over. Failures: Failed to duplicate plan. or Unable to duplicate traffic plan. - Delete — confirm Are you sure you want to delete this plan? Success Plan deleted successfully! Failure Failed to delete plan. Deletes are permanent. - Move to organization — Personal only, and only if you belong to at least one organization. Short version below; full dialogs: Move, copy, and assign an editor. - Assign editor — organization Owner or Administrator. Short version below; same article for the dialog. Rename is not on the plan menu. Rename a plan from the editor pencil Edit project title. Who sees which item depends on the plan. In an organization, only the assigned editor can usually Duplicate or Delete. Other members still Open the plan read-only. Move to organization (Personal only) On a personal plan ⋮ menu, Move to organization opens Move “Demo traffic plan” to an organization. You choose Destination organization, then How should it go? — Move (Recommended) or Copy. Use this when the team must own the drawing. Do not use it to share a read-only link; that is Copy link. You cannot send an organization plan back to Personal, or from Acme Events to another organization, from this menu. Assign editor (organization owners and admins) On an organization plan, Assign editor opens Assign an editor to “Demo traffic plan”. Everyone with workspace access can Open the plan. Only that assigned editor can change it. The library shows Editor: Sam Rivera. Other members get Plan is read-only in the editor. If you need the dialog fields, locked review, or folder moves into a team: Move, copy, and assign an editor. Traffic folders 1. Open the folder you want as parent, or stay at the root (Traffic Plans / Organization plans). 2. Click New folder. 3. The browser asks for Folder name. Example: Utrecht 2026. 4. Toast Folder created. The new folder is created where you are. There is no Location picker on traffic folders. To file it deeper, create it after you have opened the parent. Folder ⋮ menu: - Rename — prompt Rename folder, with the current name filled in. Toast Folder renamed. Failure Unable to update folder. Please try again. - Move to organization — Personal only. Moves the folder structure into a team workspace. Details in Move, copy, and assign an editor. - Delete — confirm Delete this folder? Make sure it is empty first. Toast Folder deleted. If it still has plans or folders: Cannot delete folder while it still contains items. New folder failing: Unable to create folder. Please try again. Event plans library On Plans, when Event plans exist for this account, tabs switch between Traffic plans and Event plans. If Event plans are off for this workspace, Event plans is greyed out. The line under the tabs is Not enabled for Personal. or Not enabled for Acme Events. (the workspace name). You cannot list or create event plans here until that workspace allows them. More: Event plans handbook. If you never see the Event plans tab at all, this account does not include event plans. Personal title: My event plans. Subtitle: Create and manage your event layout plans. Organization title: Acme Events event plans. Subtitle: Event plans shared with everyone who has access to this workspace. Top right: - Search. Placeholder Search event plans or folders. - New folder - New Event Plan Breadcrumb: All, then Folders (Personal) or Shared folders (organization). Search adds Search results. Inside a folder: Go up one level. Table columns: Name, Updated, Event Date, Actions. There is no traffic-style Status or Plan period column. Event date empty shows an em dash. Loading: Loading event plans… Empty folder or empty root: No event plans or folders here yet. First-time empty copy you may also see: No event plans yet. Create your first one! Search with no hits: No event plans or folders match your search. Library failure: The event plan library could not be loaded. Organization rows can show Editor: Sam Rivera the same way as traffic. Event plan menu Open, then ⋮ (Actions for that plan name): - Copy link — toast Link copied. Failure The link could not be copied. - Move to folder — dialog Move event plan. Choose a folder for "Utrecht festival". Field Location. No folder or a folder name. Move / Cancel. Toast Event plan moved. Failure The event plan could not be moved. - Duplicate — toast Event plan duplicated. Title prefix Copy of, for example Copy of Utrecht festival. Failure Failed to duplicate event plan. - Delete — Are you sure you want to delete this event plan? Toast Event plan deleted. Failure Failed to delete event plan. - Move to organization / Assign editor — same rules as traffic, when those items appear. Event folders New folder opens a dialog, not a browser prompt. | Dialog | Fields | Submit | |--------|--------|--------| | Create folder | Folder name, Location (root Folders / Shared folders, or a parent) | Save | | Rename folder | Folder name | Save | | Move folder | Choose a new location for "Utrecht 2026". then Location | Move | | Delete folder | Delete "Utrecht 2026"? A folder must be empty before it can be deleted. | Delete | Every dialog has Cancel. Toasts: Folder created, Folder renamed, Folder moved, Folder deleted. Failures: The folder could not be saved. The folder could not be deleted. Move its contents first. Move to organization on a Personal event folder uses the same team-move dialog as traffic folders. Worked example Sam Rivera draws Demo traffic plan in Personal while scouting Amsterdam. 1. Plans shows My traffic plans. 2. New folder → Utrecht 2026. 3. Plan ⋮ → Move to folder → Destination Utrecht 2026. 4. Search Demo still finds it from All. 5. After joining Acme Events, Sam still sees an empty Acme Events traffic plans until the plan is moved or copied — Move, copy, and assign an editor. Alex de Vries, a Member on Acme Events, can Open Sam’s organization plan. Unless Alex is Editor: Alex de Vries, the map is read-only. What good looks like The title matches the workspace you meant (My traffic plans or Acme Events traffic plans). You are on Traffic plans or Event plans, not the greyed-out tab. Search or the folder path shows Demo traffic plan. Paid is only on plans you unlocked. In a team, Editor: names the person who may draw. If something blocks you | Situation | Where to go | |-----------|-------------| | Empty Plans, but you remember the work | My plan does not appear in the list | | Not enabled for Personal. / Not enabled for Acme Events. | Event plans handbook | | Map opens but you cannot draw | I can’t open or edit a plan | | Need the team to own the plan | Move, copy, and assign an editor | | Need a live URL, not a file | Share a plan and read-only view | Related articles - Create, organise, and share traffic plans - Find your way around - Move, copy, and assign an editor - My plan does not appear in the list - Share a plan and read-only view - Event plans handbook
Move, copy, and assign an editor
This page is the dialog behind Move to organization and Assign editor. It also covers moving a whole folder such as Utrecht 2026 into a team workspace. Plan actions menu with Copy link, Move to folder, Duplicate, and Move to organization Move “Demo traffic plan — Amsterdam works” to an organization — Move recommended versus Copy Use it when Demo traffic plan still lives in Personal and Acme Events should own it, or when the wrong person has the pen. Skip it to share a read-only URL — that is Copy link, not Copy. Skip it to file a plan inside the same workspace — that is Move to folder. You cannot create an organization yourself. Join first: Join an organization. Roles after you are in: Organizations and members. When you need this - Demo traffic plan is on My traffic plans, and colleagues on Acme Events cannot see it in Acme Events traffic plans. - You joined Acme Events, accepted the invite, and the library still looks personal. - Review locked the personal plan, and you need a separate organization version. - Sam Rivera should edit; Alex de Vries should only view. You do not need this to let a municipality look. Send Copy link. Viewers do not become members and do not become the assigned editor. Move to organization (Personal only) Move to organization appears on the plan ⋮ menu only while you are in Personal, and only if Switch workspace lists at least one organization. You cannot run it from Acme Events traffic plans. You cannot send a plan back to Personal. You cannot send it from Acme Events to another organization. 1. Switch workspace → Personal. 2. Open Plans. 3. ⋮ on Demo traffic plan → Move to organization. Before you pick a destination The dialog title is Move “Demo traffic plan” to an organization (the quotes use the real plan name). Until you choose an organization, the only field is Destination organization, starting at Choose an organization. The help line is First choose which organization this should go to. Cancel closes without changes. If you belong to one organization, the app may fill Acme Events for you and skip that empty first step. How should it go? After a destination is selected, the description is: Move ownership into a team workspace, or keep a personal copy and create a separate organization version. Label: How should it go? Two cards: Move — badge Recommended. Leaves your Personal workspace. Same public link. The organization becomes the owner. Copy — Keep the plan in Personal. The organization gets a separate plan with a new public link. | | Move | Copy | |---|----------|----------| | Personal library | Plan leaves | Plan stays | | Public URL | Same Copy link / Sharable link | New URL for the organization plan | | Who owns it | Acme Events | Personal keeps the original; Acme Events has a separate plan | | Paid on the original | Travels with the moved plan | The copy is not Paid. Unlock the organization plan separately if you need unlimited signs there | | Button | Move plan | Copy plan | | While it runs | Moving… | Copying… | | Success | Plan moved to Acme Events | Plan copied to Acme Events | | Failure | The plan could not be moved to that organization. | The plan could not be copied to that organization. | Choose Move when the team should become the source of truth and you do not need a private leftover. Choose Copy when you still want to draw in Personal, or when move is blocked (review). After Move, open Switch workspace → Acme Events. Plans retitles to Acme Events traffic plans. Creating you as the mover makes you the assigned editor on that organization plan. Under review — move unavailable If municipality review has locked the personal plan, Move is disabled. Amber panel title: Under review — move unavailable. Body: Plans with an active municipality review stay in Personal. You can still copy this plan into an organization if you need a separate version. If you still try to move (API or a race), the error is A plan under review cannot be moved. Copy it instead, or wait until the review is finished. Copy stays available. The organization version is a separate drawing with a new public link. It does not take the review dossier with it. Do not copy to dodge comments the municipality already left — My plan is locked for review. Approved in the app is not a legal permit. It does mean this drawing is accepted in Traffic Chart and stays locked. You still cannot Move a locked plan. Assign an editor In Acme Events, everyone with access can Open the plan. Only the assigned editor can change, duplicate, or delete it. Other members get Plan is read-only. Creating a plan in the organization makes you the assigned editor. Only Owner and Administrator see Assign editor on the plan ⋮ menu. Member does not. 1. Switch workspace → Acme Events. 2. Plans → ⋮ on Demo traffic plan → Assign editor. Dialog title: Assign an editor to “Demo traffic plan”. Choose the one active member who can edit this plan. Owners and administrators can change the assignment later. Field Assigned editor, starting at Choose an editor. Pick Sam Rivera. If the current editor is no longer an active member, that option is listed disabled as Sam Rivera (membership inactive). You cannot leave the plan on an inactive membership. Choose someone Active, then save. - Save assignment - While it runs: Saving… - Cancel - Toast Editor assignment updated - Failure The editor assignment could not be updated. The library row then shows Editor: Sam Rivera. If Sam’s membership is later suspended, nobody can edit until an owner or admin assigns someone else. Leaving Acme Events does not delete organization plans. Checkout and spending a credit also need edit access. An owner who is not the editor cannot pay on a colleague’s plan. Reassign, then pay. Seeing the map is not editing. If the header says Plan is read-only and you expected the pen: I can’t open or edit a plan. Move a folder into an organization On Personal, folder ⋮ → Move to organization. There is no Copy card for folders. The structure is recreated in the destination. Plans that cannot move stay behind. Title: Move folder “Utrecht 2026”. Until you pick Destination organization, the help is still First choose which organization this should go to. After you pick Acme Events: Move this folder and its plans into an organization workspace. Folder structure is recreated there. Three counts: | Label | Meaning | |-------|---------| | Will move | Plans in this folder (and subfolders) that can leave Personal | | Subfolders | Nested folders that will be recreated | | Stay personal | Plans under review that cannot move | Buttons: Move folder / Moving folder… / Cancel. Folder outcomes Empty folder (no plans at all): This folder has no plans. The folder structure will still be moved to the organization. Success toast Folder moved to Acme Events. Mix of movable and locked, for example four free to move and one under review: amber title Plans under review stay personal. Body: 1 plan(s) under review will stay in your Personal workspace and cannot be moved. Copy those individually if you need organization versions. Success in that mix: Moved 4 plans to Acme Events. 1 stayed in Personal (under review). If every plan is under review: Every plan in this folder is under review, so nothing can be moved. Copy individual plans if you need organization versions. Move folder stays off. All movable, nothing skipped: Moved 4 plans to Acme Events. Failure: The folder could not be moved to that organization. Copy the locked plans one by one with Copy on each plan if the team needs a version they can still draw on. Wait until review finishes if they must keep the same public link. After you accept an invite Accept invitation does not switch workspace. You can still be looking at My traffic plans with none of Acme Events’ folders. Do this immediately: 1. Click your initials and first name. 2. Under Switch workspace, choose Acme Events. 3. Plans retitles to Acme Events traffic plans. Then Move to organization from Personal if Demo traffic plan was drawn before you joined. New plans from Home go to whichever workspace you last opened. If you skip the switch, the next Demo traffic plan is created in Personal again and colleagues will not see it. Worked example Alex de Vries invites Sam Rivera to Acme Events as Member. Sam accepts, then Switch workspace → Acme Events. The team library is empty. Sam switches back to Personal, opens Demo traffic plan, Move to organization, destination Acme Events, Move (Recommended), Move plan. Toast Plan moved to Acme Events. The public link Sam already emailed the contractor is unchanged. On Acme Events traffic plans, the row shows Editor: Sam Rivera. Alex can Open the plan and cannot place signs. Later the owner uses Assign editor and picks Alex. Toast Editor assignment updated. Sam now gets Plan is read-only. What good looks like The plan you care about sits under Acme Events traffic plans (or you knowingly kept a Personal original after Copy). Editor: names the one person who may draw. Review-locked plans remained in Personal. You did not paste a Copy link URL and call that membership. If something blocks you | Situation | What to try | |-----------|-------------| | No Move to organization | You are not on Personal, or Switch workspace has no organization | | Under review — move unavailable | Copy, or wait for review | | Colleagues still cannot see the plan | They must Switch workspace to Acme Events | | You can open but not draw | You are not the assigned editor — I can’t open or edit a plan | | Invite accepted, still My traffic plans | Switch workspace | | The editor assignment could not be updated. | Confirm the person is Active, retry | Related articles - Organizations and members - Folders, search, and the plans library - I can’t open or edit a plan - My plan is locked for review - Join an organization - Share a plan and read-only view

Title, dates, Paid, and Auto-save
The traffic editor header is where you name Demo traffic plan, set Start date and End date, see Paid, and watch Auto-save. This page is those controls, including the Continue your traffic plan wall on older plans. Use it when the title is wrong, Melvin stays off, you are unsure whether the last change saved, or a modal blocks the map. Skip it to place signs or search an address. Editor header You need an editable plan: you own it in Personal, or you are the assigned editor in an organization, and review has not locked it. Left to right in the header Typical order: | Control | What it does | |---------|----------------| | Traffic Chart logo | Leaves the editor and opens Plans for this plan’s workspace | | Lock icon (when shown) | Plan is locked while under review, or This plan is locked because it has been approved plus Plan approved | | Plan title + pencil | Pencil is Edit project title | | Paid | Unlimited signs on this plan | | Start date / End date | Works period (date and time) | | Auto-save | Account preference; hover the switch for status | | Save | Manual save, when auto-save is off | | Export | Share or files — not this page | | Show Melvin / Hide Melvin | Netherlands roadworks. Disabled until dates are filled: Fill in a date to use this option | Read-only viewers still see the title and dates. They cannot use the pencil or change dates. Rename the plan 1. Click the pencil. Accessible name: Edit project title. 2. The field is Project title. The field stops at 50 characters. 3. Press Enter or click away to keep it. Escape cancels. Empty title falls back to the default name for a new plan. Rename here, not on the Plans ⋮ menu. That menu Rename is for folders. A useful pattern is site + place + year, for example Demo traffic plan for Amsterdam works. The new name is a change like any other. Wait for Auto-save: saved, or click Save if auto-save is off, before you send a link. Paid Paid on the header (and on the Plans row) means unlimited traffic signs on this plan. It does not unlock every plan you own. It does not turn on Pro tools such as PDF preview. Event plans do not use this badge. How a plan becomes Paid (participating municipality, credit, or checkout): Billing, free use, and credits. This page does not quote a price. Duplicate does not copy Paid. Copy into an organization also starts the organization plan unpaid. Start date and End date Both fields need a date and a time. Incomplete time is not a filled date. In the header: - Empty start control shows Start date. Filled, the pencil still edits it (Change start date includes the current value). Empty: Select start date. - Empty end control shows End date. Empty: Select end date. - A dash sits between them. Default times when you pick from the calendar: start 00:00, end 23:59. You can change them. Start date must be before End date. Dates appear on exports. They also gate Show Melvin. Until both are filled, that control stays off with Fill in a date to use this option. Melvin itself: Map layers and Melvin. Change dates from the header after create. You do not re-run Start planning. On Plans, a row without dates shows No scheduled dates yet. One-sided rows show Starts or Ends. Auto-save The label is Auto-save. The switch is an account preference, not a setting on one plan. Turn it on in a traffic editor and it stays on for your next event plan too. Hover the switch (title text): | Title | Meaning | |-------|---------| | Auto-save is disabled | You must click Save | | Auto-save: saving | A save is in flight | | Auto-save: unsaved changes | You edited; it has not finished writing | | Auto-save: saved | Safe to close the tab or send a link | The thumb shows a spinner while saving, amber while unsaved, green with a check when saved. Click the switch to toggle. Toasts: - Auto-save enabled — and if you have unsaved edits, a save starts - Auto-save disabled - Could not update auto-save preference — the switch did not stick; try again Wait for Auto-save: saved before you close the tab, refresh, or mail a Sharable link. Closing mid Auto-save: saving can drop the last signs. Two tabs on the same plan can overwrite each other. Work in one tab. Save When Auto-save is on, header Save is not offered. The disabled reason is auto-save is enabled. When auto-save is off: 1. Click Save. 2. The button reads Saving... until it finishes. 3. Toast Saved traffic plan. 4. Failure Could not save traffic plan. Do not click Save repeatedly. Wait for Saving... to finish. Locked while you were drawing If a reviewer locks the plan during your session, save cannot keep your last edits. The toast concatenates the lock sentence with a reload sentence, for example: Plan is locked while under review Your latest changes could not be saved. Reloading the latest version... The map reloads the stored version. Local unsaved work is gone. Header Save stays off with Plan is locked while under review. Approved plans: This plan is locked because it has been approved / Plan approved. In-app Approved is not a legal permit. It does mean this drawing stays frozen in Traffic Chart. Read-only (share link, or you are not the assigned editor): tools show Plan is read-only. You cannot save. Sidebar tools may also say Plan is approved and locked, Plan is under review, or Plan is locked. Same idea: stop drawing. I can’t open or edit a plan. Review lock detail: My plan is locked for review. Continue your traffic plan (older plans) Some older plans never stored a country or dates. The editor does not open the map until you finish this modal. You cannot dismiss it with a click outside. Title: Continue your traffic plan. | Field | Placeholder | |-------|-------------| | Country * | Select a country... | | Plan name * | My Traffic Plan | | Duration * | Start date and End date | Country loads the sign catalogue. Pick the country of the works, not your billing country. Duration is two date fields. The modal does not ask for a clock time here. Saving stores start at 00:00 and end at 23:59. Change times later with the header Start date / End date pencils. Buttons: Cancel (opens Plans) and Continue planning. Yellow panel: Please complete the required fields before continuing. To proceed, you must select a country (used to display the correct traffic signs) and provide both a start and end date for your traffic plan. Footer: Customer support, FAQ, How-to, Status. Validation: - Start date must be before end date - All fields are required New plans from Home already ask for Country, Plan name, Start date, and End date on Create a new plan. You should not see this modal on a plan you just created with Start planning. Event plans: save and dates Event editors use the same Auto-save switch. Manual Save reads Saving... while it runs. Success toast Event plan saved. Failure Failed to save event plan. Event Start date / End date also need date and time. If end is not after start: End date must be after the start date. Event plans are not billed in credits and do not show traffic Paid. They can still lock for review: This event plan is locked and cannot be edited. What good looks like The header title matches the works. Start date and End date both have a date and a time, start before end. Show Melvin is available if you need it (Netherlands, dates filled). Hover Auto-save reads Auto-save: saved (or you clicked Save and saw Saved traffic plan). You did not close the tab on Auto-save: unsaved changes. If something blocks you | Situation | What to try | |-----------|-------------| | Pencil missing | Read-only or locked — I can’t open or edit a plan | | Fill in a date to use this option | Complete Start date and End date, including times | | Could not save traffic plan | Network, then Save once more. If locked, read the concatenated reload toast | | Could not update auto-save preference | Toggle again; if it fails, Save manually | | Continue your traffic plan will not close | Fill Country, Plan name, Duration, then Continue planning | | Paid questions | Billing, free use, and credits | | Need the rest of the chrome | Tour of the traffic plan editor | Related articles - Tour of the traffic plan editor - Create, organise, and share traffic plans - I can’t open or edit a plan - Map layers and Melvin - My plan is locked for review - Billing, free use, and credits
Search address, zoom, and Scale
Find the works on the map, zoom until a sign click is precise, and set Scale: so objects print at a readable size. This page is Search address, Zoom in / Zoom out, pan, Scale:, and coordinates. Use it when Demo traffic plan opens on the wrong city, signs look huge on a Detail export, or the scale slider is grey. Skip it to pick a sign from the catalogue. Map tools Wait for the map The editor opens full-screen. A branded overlay shows Opening Map Environment... and Loading geographical data & traffic signs. Wait until that overlay is gone and street tiles are visible. Do not search or place signs on a white rectangle. If the map stays blank: Map will not load or stays blank. Search address Search address is in the left tool stack (magnifying glass). 1. Click Search address. 2. The field appears with placeholder Type to search address. 3. Type a street, place, or full address — for example a Utrecht junction, or an Amsterdam venue. 4. Press Enter. The map jumps to the first geocoded result. There is no separate search button. Enter runs the search and closes the field. Try a fuller address if nothing useful appears: street, number, city, country. Neude, Utrecht beats Neude. A postcode plus city often works when a venue nickname does not. Country versus address Country on the plan loads the sign catalogue. Address search geocodes a place on the world map. They are not the same control. A Netherlands catalogue with a Belgian street still searches. You will then place Dutch signs on a Belgian road. If the catalogue is wrong, start a new plan with the correct Country rather than hunting in Search traffic signs. Wrong country or missing traffic signs. Confirm Country matches the area you are searching before you draw a lot of signs. Zoom and pan Left stack, under Layers & Objects: - Zoom in - Zoom out Also: - Mouse wheel zooms. - Trackpad pinch or scroll zooms. - Drag the background (not a selected sign) to pan. Zoom in until placing a sign on a lane feels precise. Keep the works near the centre of the view before you draw export maps, so PDF pages frame the road rather than a field. Read-only viewers (share link, or not the assigned editor) can still pan and zoom. They cannot change Scale:. Zoom is how much map you see. Scale: is how large your signs and sketches are on that map. Zooming in does not shrink a sign for print. Lowering Scale: does. Some Dutch layers only appear when you are close enough. You may see Zoom in further to show BGT objects. or Zoom in further to display fire hydrants. Those hints are the layer talking, not a broken search. Map layers and Melvin. Scale Scale: sits at the bottom right of the map. Default 1.0. The slider runs from 0.1 to 1.0 in steps of 0.1. You cannot go above 1.0. Lower values shrink objects. Click Scale: to open the slider. Move it, then release. Lower scale shrinks signs, lines, and drawings relative to the basemap. Use 0.5 when a long Utrecht corridor must fit more objects on a Detail export page without covering the whole junction. 1.0 is the default for a single junction that already fits. Scale control Set scale before you finalise many Detail export rectangles. After a change, those rectangles may be cleared (see confirm below). Re-check framing and sign size on Export. Sketch tools and measurement are a different lesson: Drawing and measuring. PDF preview locks the slider While PDF preview is On, scale cannot change. Hover the control: Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. 1. Set PDF preview to Off. 2. Change Scale:. 3. Turn preview On again if you still need the paper rehearsal. PDF preview is a Pro tool. Paying for unlimited signs (Paid) does not unlock it. Preview itself: PDF preview. Confirm scale change If the plan already has Detail export maps, changing scale opens Confirm scale change. Body, with the value you picked (example 0.5): To ensure optimal results with the new scale (0.5), your detail export maps will be reset and need to be redefined. The scale function gives you more control over the size of objects like lines and traffic signs. Notes: - Scale 1.0 is the default. If you lower the scale (e.g., to 0.5), all objects will shrink, and detail export maps must be redrawn. This helps keep traffic signs readable when exported or printed. - PDF preview and XL maps will be kept because their scale is based on the selected export map. Buttons: Confirm and Cancel. Confirm applies 0.5 (or whatever you chose) and clears Detail rectangles. You redraw those maps. XL maps and PDF preview framing stay. Cancel keeps the previous scale. The slider closes. If there are no Detail maps, the confirm dialog does not appear. The new scale applies immediately. After a confirmed change, open Export and redraw Detail maps before you send a PDF. Export and print traffic plans. Coordinates and Address Select a sign stack. Open Traffic Objects → Details. Coordinates: Latitude and Longitude. Address shows the reverse-geocoded street when the app has one. Use Search address to jump around. Use Latitude / Longitude when a contractor asks for an exact point. Empty Details: No sign selected. Typing a latitude does not move the map the way Search address does. Worked example Sam Rivera opens Demo traffic plan for Utrecht. 1. Wait until Opening Map Environment... is gone and tiles show. 2. Search address, type the works street in Type to search address, Enter. 3. Zoom in until one junction fills the view. 4. Scale: is 1.0. The corridor is long, so Sam chooses 0.5. 5. Confirm scale change appears because Detail maps already exist. Sam reads that those maps will be reset, clicks Confirm, and redraws them. 6. A contractor asks for a point. Sam selects the stack, Details, copies Latitude and Longitude. If Sam had left PDF preview On, the slider would stay grey with Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. Practical rhythm 1. Wait until Opening Map Environment... is gone. 2. Search address → Type to search address → Enter. 3. Zoom in until a pole location is obvious. 4. Set Scale: (often leave 1.0; use 0.5 for a long corridor) before lots of Detail maps. 5. Place signs. 6. Pan by dragging the background to check nearby junctions. What good looks like The map is on the Utrecht (or Amsterdam) works, not a default city you never chose. Tiles are visible. Signs sit on the carriageway at a size that will still read on PDF. Scale: matches the export you intend. PDF preview is Off when you need to move the slider. Details shows Latitude and Longitude for a selected stack. If something blocks you | Situation | What to try | |-----------|-------------| | Overlay never clears, or the map is white | Map will not load or stays blank | | Search jumps to the right street, wrong signs | Wrong Country — Wrong country or missing traffic signs | | Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. | PDF preview Off | | Confirm scale change surprised you | Cancel if you cannot redraw Detail maps yet | | Cannot pan or the tools are missing | Read-only or locked — I can’t open or edit a plan | | Need paper rehearsal, not object size | PDF preview | Related articles - Tour of the traffic plan editor - Drawing and measuring - PDF preview - Export and print traffic plans - Map will not load or stays blank - Wrong country or missing traffic signs
Working with signs
still — sign catalogue (combination templates where available) still — placed sign selected (controls / details) Traffic plans are built from the sign catalogue for this plan’s Country. This page is everyday place, stack, label, and edit. Bulk lines and offset stacks are in Advanced sign placement. Use this when you are drawing one sign at a time. Skip it if you only need a share link or a PDF. Find and place 1. Open Traffic Objects → Signs. 2. Confirm the country list at the top of Signs. A toast such as Showing signs for The Netherlands (Nederland) based on traffic plan follows that choice. 3. Type in Search traffic signs, or open a category. Categories depend on the country. In English you will typically see some of: Most used, Speed, Priority, Road Closure, Mandatory Direction, Parking & Stopping, Commands & Prohibitions, Traffic Regulations, Built-up Area, Warning, Direction, Information, Waterways, Custom, Subsigns, Roadwork, Symbols, Pedestrians / School, Emission zones, Events. 4. Collapse all / Expand all when the list is long. 5. Click a sign, then click the map. If the search is empty: No signs found. If the catalogue itself fails: Could not load traffic signs — refresh and retry. Signs catalogue — Search traffic signs and categories A running count of placed types sits on the right of the map. Expand legend opens it; Collapse legend hides it. Use the legend to spot a plate you placed twice by accident. Details with nothing selected: No sign selected. Click a stack first. Placement is checked against the free sign limit, participating municipalities, and whether the plan is Paid. If the app blocks you, follow the dialog. Full rules: Billing, free use, and credits and I can’t place more signs. Wrong catalogue: Wrong country or missing traffic signs. Move, rotate, duplicate, remove Click a placed stack. The toolbar: | Control | Does | |---------|------| | Move sign | Drag the real location | | Displace sign stack | Offset the drawing; Pro. Details in the advanced article | | Rotate sign | Turn the stack | | Duplicate sign | Copy the stack | | Edit sign | Opens Details | | Remove signs | Deletes the whole stack | Each plate in a stack also has Remove sign. Moving into a non-participating area can hit the free limit. Approved or in-review plans disable these controls. Tooltips: Plan is approved and locked, Plan is under review, Plan is locked, or Plan is read-only. If PDF preview is On and the XL rectangle is unlocked: Lock the preview map to select this object. Click Lock preview map, then select the stack. Details: text, labels, address Select the stack and open Details (or Edit sign). Sign text appears when that plate allows or requires inscription. If you see Please select a road type, choose it before the text field accepts input. Length limits show in the form. Label is a short crew tag on the stack (maximum Only 20 characters are allowed when enforced). Use Show labels / Hide labels on the map when you want those tags visible while drawing. Address and Coordinates (Latitude, Longitude) describe the location. Prefer Search address to navigate; use coordinates when a municipality asks for them. If the plate is a traffic-controller post, Details may include Manage post orders? Open post orders. That panel is Post orders: Post items, Posts, Post name (label), Orders, Google Maps, Go to post. Full walkthrough: Materials list and post orders. Timeslots on Details is marked Coming soon. The line under it is We are working on time slots for signs. Use the plan Start date and End date until that ships. Do not wait on Timeslots for a permit drawing. Sign stacking Enable sign stacking / Disable sign stacking sits on the right of the map (with PDF preview and Show labels). Stacking is on by default. The control reads Enable / Disable plus sign stacking. With stacking on, placing a sign on an existing location adds a plate to that pole. With stacking off, a nearby click starts a new location. Select a stack to reorder visually by removing and placing, to Remove sign on one plate, or to edit Details. The materials list can add Stacked signs as a mounting overview. Note on that section: This is a mounting overview per post. The quantities for the individual signs are already included in the materials totals above. Those quantities are already in the totals above that section. Dense junctions often combine stacks with Displace sign stack so plates do not sit on top of each other on paper. Combination signs Custom boards live in a full editor titled Combination sign (Build your sign with text and icons). Open it with Edit sign on a placed template. That editor has its own article: Combination signs. Do not skip it if you build detour boards — validation (Check the sign), Name on the materials list (This is how it appears on the material list.), and unsaved-changes behaviour all live there. Public share viewers see the finished board snapshot, not the editor catalogue. Request a missing item If the catalogue has no match, Request Item (24h) at the bottom of Signs. Describe the code, country, and what you need. Continue with the closest available sign if the works cannot wait. You can also email customer@traffic-chart.com. The form and what happens next: Request a missing sign or object. Older plans from before 01-10-24 Opening some older drawings can toast: It seems like you have imported an old traffic plan. When (re)using plans made before 01-10-24, previously placed items may have shifted and will need to be adjusted once to ensure the correct location. This is due to the improved surfaces and the export function of the system. For signs with text, please select each sign and reselect the road type to regenerate the text. Do that once. Move sign any stack that no longer sits on the carriageway. Open Details, pick the road type again, and confirm Sign text. Then Save. What good looks like The catalogue country matches the road authority. Stacks have short unique Labels. Required Sign text and road type are filled. Combination boards Save without validation errors. Sign counts on the legend roughly match what you expect to export. Timeslots is left as Coming soon. If something blocks you | Situation | Where to go | |-----------|-------------| | Sign limit reached or payment dialog | I can’t place more signs | | No signs found / wrong plates | Wrong country or missing traffic signs | | Could not load traffic signs | Refresh; if the map is also white, Map will not load or stays blank | | Displace sign stack or Bulk signs locked | Feature not available for my account | | Cannot edit at all | I can’t open or edit a plan | | Missing catalogue item | Request a missing sign or object | Related articles - Tour of the traffic plan editor - Advanced sign placement - Combination signs - Drawing and measuring - Export and print traffic plans
Combination signs
A Combination sign is a board you compose yourself: a header, body text, and icons on a yellow or white plate. You pick a template from the catalogue, place it like any other sign, then open Edit sign to finish the layout. The saved board is what prints, what the materials list names, and what a public viewer sees. Use this when the works need a custom information board — a kiss-and-ride plate, an event parking board, a temporary direction board with a bicycle or tent icon. Skip it for standard catalogue plates; those stay in Working with signs. You must be able to edit the plan. A share-link viewer never gets this editor. Organization members who are not the assigned editor also cannot open it. Find a template in the catalogue 1. Open Traffic Objects, then Signs. 2. Confirm the country list at the top of Signs. Combination templates follow that country, the same way ordinary plates do. A toast such as Showing signs for The Netherlands (Nederland) based on traffic plan follows a country change. 3. Type in Search traffic signs. Search looks at the template name and description, not only at official codes. Try words such as parking, event, or the Dutch name you already know. 4. Or open a category. Templates sit in the same groups as other plates for that country (Most used, Events, Custom, and the rest of that catalogue). 5. Use Collapse all / Expand all when the list is long. 6. If no category contains a match: No signs found. Change the search or the country. Wrong catalogue: Wrong country or missing traffic signs. The catalogue tile is a preview of the template’s default board, not a finished custom layout. Click it, then click the map to place it. Placement still counts toward the free sign limit and participating-municipality rules. If the app blocks you, follow the dialog. Full rules: Billing, free use, and credits and I can’t place more signs. You can stack a combination board with ordinary plates when Enable sign stacking is on. With stacking off, a nearby click starts a new location. If the catalogue has no match, Request Item (24h) at the bottom of Signs. Describe the board, country, and a photo if you have one. Continue with the closest available template if the works cannot wait. You can also email customer@traffic-chart.com. Request a missing item. Place the board, then open Edit sign 1. Click the map at the real location (for example a Utrecht side street that needs an event parking board). 2. Click the placed stack. The sign toolbar includes Move sign, Displace sign stack (Pro), Rotate sign, Duplicate sign, Edit sign, and Remove signs. 3. Edit sign on that toolbar opens Details. You can also open Traffic Objects → Details after selecting the stack. 4. Details empty state is No sign selected until a stack is selected. On Details, a combination plate does not look like a standard code card. You see: - The orange heading Combination sign. - The current template name under that heading. - The current Size under the name. - A small live preview of the board on the right. - A full-width orange button Edit sign. Address and Coordinates (Latitude, Longitude) still describe the location under the stack. Combination boards do not use the ordinary Sign text field on Details; text lives on the board itself. Click Edit sign to open the board editor. That is the only place to change header copy, icons, Size, Colour preset, and Name. If Edit sign is missing, you are read-only (share link, not the assigned editor, or the plan is locked). I can’t open or edit a plan. The Combination sign editor Combination sign board editor — Name, Size, Colour preset, Header, and Add The editor is a large dialog. The title is Combination sign. The subtitle is Build your sign with text and icons. Top right: | Control | Does | |---------|------| | Cancel | Closes the editor. Unsaved work asks before it discards | | Save | Writes the board onto the placed sign and closes. Disabled while Check the sign still has errors | Hover Save while it is disabled. The tooltip is Not saveable yet: plus the first error, for example Not saveable yet: Elements may not overlap. More than one error becomes Not saveable yet: Elements may not overlap. (and 2 more issues). One extra issue uses the singular issue. If the editor cannot name the problem, you get The sign is not valid yet. The left half is the board. The right half is the inspector: Name, Size, Colour preset, Header, and Add. Click empty board space to deselect. Click an element to select it. Selected items show an orange border. Invalid items show a red border. The board grid The board uses a 5×12 cell grid in the body. Header text sits in the header band above that grid. While you drag, the cells flash green where the piece can land and red where it cannot. That grid is not decoration. Validation requires it: The sign must use a 5x12 grid. You never set the grid yourself. If something falls off the plate you will see An element falls outside the sign. Drag an icon from Add onto the board, or click it to insert. Drop is rejected when the candidate overlaps another piece. With an unlocked element selected, a small handle bar appears: | Handle | Label | Does | |--------|-------|------| | Move | Move | Drag the piece to another cell | | Rotate | Rotate | Icons only. Turns 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270° | | Remove | Remove | Deletes that piece | | Resize | Resize | Orange knob at the bottom-right corner. Stretch the piece across cells | Locked pieces (typically the header while it is required) cannot Move or Remove. Click the header text itself to type. Body Text boxes have a maximum of 80 characters. If the sentence no longer fits, the editor first tries to widen the box, then tries to continue on the next row. If there is no room, a red Check the sign notice appears: This text no longer fits in the available space. Free up space, enlarge the text box, or shorten the text a little. The extra characters are not kept. Text blocks must be at least two columns wide: Text blocks must be at least 2 columns wide. Icons must occupy at least one cell: Icons must be at least 1 cell in size. Rotation that is not a right angle is rejected: Icon rotation must be 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Name (materials list) On the right, Name is a text field. Placeholder: Combination sign. Maximum 60 characters. Under the field: This is how it appears on the material list. Give every custom board a crew-facing name, for example Kiss and ride Utrecht or Acme Events P+R. Leave it as Combination sign and every yellow board of that template looks the same on paper. Excel puts that Name in the Traffic sign column. The size goes to Remark. Header and body lines go to Inscription. If a board has no custom name, some totals fall back to Composite sign. Details: Materials list and post orders. Size: 120 x 80 and 130 x 90 Size is a dropdown of the sizes the template allows. The usual sizes are 120 x 80 (120 cm × 80 cm) and 130 x 90 (130 cm × 90 cm). A template may offer only one of those. Changing Size rescales the board. Recheck that text still fits and that icons have not been pushed off the plate. Save stays blocked until Check the sign is clear. The size you pick is the physical plate you intend to order. It is also the size the map uses for that stack. A 130 x 90 board on a dense Utrecht junction will cover more of a Detail PDF page than 120 x 80. Colour preset: Geel and Wit Colour preset appears when the template offers more than one approved colour. The usual presets are named Geel (yellow board, dark border) and Wit (white board, dark border). Those Dutch names are the labels on the buttons, including in the English app. They are not translated to Yellow / White. Click a swatch to apply it. The selected preset shows an orange ring. You cannot pick an arbitrary hex colour. Unapproved colours fail with Sign colour must be an approved preset. A broken colour value fails with Sign colour must be a valid colour. If the snapshot has no catalogue presets, the inspector may show a single Current colour swatch instead of Geel / Wit. A generic Colour label can appear when a preset has no name. Match the physical plate the contractor will print. Do not mix Geel and Wit on two boards that the crew thinks are the same design. Header Header has two toggles: | Toggle | Does | |--------|------| | Black background | Header band is black with light text, or transparent so the board colour shows through | | Line under header | Draws a divider between the header and the body | When the header band is visible, a header text block is required: A header text block is required. Type the title on the board, for example KISS & RIDE or P+R ACME EVENTS. An invalid header background fails with Header background is invalid. Turn Black background off if you want the header to sit on Geel or Wit like the rest of the plate. The header text colour follows that choice. Keep header text short. Long headers fail the same fit check as body text. Add text and icons The Add section is a grid of insert buttons. The first tile is always Text. It inserts a body text box. Click the box on the board and type. Alignment follows the box (left, centre, or right). The remaining tiles are the icons this template allows. Typical assets include Taxi, Bus, Tent, Bicycle, Parking, Moped, Pedestrians, Arrow, and Train station. A template can allow a subset. Click a tile or drag it onto the board. If the template forbids icons: No icons allowed for this template. An icon without an asset fails Icon is missing an asset. An icon that is not on this template fails This icon is not allowed for this template. Missing export artwork fails Icon is missing a snapshot for export. Selected element: text in an icon Select an icon that supports inscription. The inspector grows a Selected element block. You see the icon name and the line Text in icon. Text is the inscription field. When the asset has a character limit, the helper is Max. 6 characters (the number is the limit for that icon). Hitting the limit flashes Maximum length reached. Validation can also say Text may contain at most 6 character(s). Some icons need a road-type rule first. Text rule is a select. Placeholder option: Choose road type. Until you pick one, the app can show Choose a text rule first. If the asset has no fixed rule, you still choose Text rule, then type in Text. A three-line box is available when the icon is not length-capped. Errors on the icon itself: - This icon does not support custom text. - Text in icon does not fit properly within the icon. - Text does not fit properly within the icon. (same idea, from validation) When the icon can keep lettering upright while the symbol rotates, Keep text upright appears with a switch. Turn it on so P+R stays readable after you Rotate the parking symbol. Check the sign A red banner Check the sign appears above the board whenever the draft is invalid or a text-fit notice is showing. The first message is the one to fix. It is not a separate button. The banner is the check. Fix every row before Save works. | Message | What to do | |---------|------------| | The sign is not valid yet. | Generic fallback. Read the next specific error | | Invalid composite sign schema version. | Recreate the board from the catalogue template | | The sign must use a 5x12 grid. | Do not fight the grid. Do you want to close the sign and discard your changes? - Keep editing — returns to the board. Nothing is discarded. - Close without saving — discards the draft. The placed sign stays as it was when you opened Edit sign. There is no “save as a new template”. Each placed board has its own snapshot. Duplicating the stack copies that snapshot; edit the copy if the second location needs different text. After Save, rotate and move the stack like any other: Move sign, Rotate sign, Duplicate sign, Remove signs. Displace sign stack (Pro) still works if the board covers a junction on paper. What public viewers see People who open the public URL see the finished board on the map. They do not get Edit sign. They do not get the template catalogue (Add icons, Size list, Colour preset swatches). The server sends the stored snapshot only. That is intentional. Treat the share link as a published drawing, not as a second editor. Details: Share a plan and read-only view. If you later change the admin template, already placed boards keep the snapshot you saved. New placements from Signs pick up the current template. Drawing and measuring
still — line tool + direction flyout still — scale control motion — street zoom measure away from route, hold labels, clear Besides traffic signs, you sketch on the map, import a track, measure, and set overall drawing Scale:. These tools support detours, work areas, and notes. Sketches only appear on a PDF when they sit inside an export map. A line drawn outside the Detail or XL rectangle will not print. Use this when you need lines, zones, GPX, or a distance check. Skip it for sign catalogues or Melvin. You must be able to edit. Sketch tools are hidden when the plan is Plan is read-only, Plan is under review, or Plan is approved and locked. Sketch tools On the left of the editor (edit mode, not read-only), under Search address: Sketch tools — Import GPX, Add line, Add rectangle, Add circle, Add shape, Add text, Select color | Tool | Use | |------|-----| | Import GPX | Load a .gpx file from your computer | | Add line | Routes and boundaries. Tooltip: Select drawing color | Click points to draw. Finish the line or shape as the map guides (double-click to end a line). Draw inside the area you will later frame with an export map if the sketch must print. Add line and direction extras Click Add line. While it is active (or after you select a line), three extra buttons appear to the right of the tool: - Left arrow — the line points backwards - Plain horizontal line — no arrow - Right arrow — the line points forwards Pick a direction before or while you draw. A detour usually wants one arrow. A work-area outline usually wants the plain line. A ruler button next to those extras is Toggle measurement. It shows or hides that line’s own length on the map. The same Toggle measurement control appears for a selected Add rectangle, Add circle, or Add shape. Add rectangle, Add circle, Add shape, Add text Add rectangle — click two corners. Use it for a work compound or a closed street block. Add circle — click the centre, then the radius. Use it for a buffer around a junction. Add shape — click a freeform polygon; close it as the map guides. Use it for an irregular site. Add text — click the map, then type. This is a map note, not a traffic-sign Label, and not a review Comments pin. Sign labels live on the stack. Review remarks live in Comments. Click the same tool again to stop drawing. Drawing colours 1. Open the sketch stack and click Select color (tooltip Select drawing color). 2. Pick a named colour. Hovering a swatch reads Select Red color (or whichever name the palette prints). The selected swatch tooltip is Selected color Red. Toggle color menu. 3. Draw the next line, shape, or text. 4. Change colour again for the following object. Use a consistent colour for emergency versus public routes. Names come from the product colour list. Colour applies to new sketches; change the tool colour before you draw the next object. Import a GPX route Import GPX on the sketch stack 1. Click Import GPX. 2. Choose a .gpx file from your computer. 3. Wait for Successfully imported GPX file, or Failed to import GPX file. 4. Find the route under Layers & Objects → GPX Imports. The row is GPX Route. 5. Save the plan (Auto-save or Save). Success toast: Saved traffic plan. Use GPX for recorded detours, bike routes, or site perimeters. If import fails, try a simpler single-track file, or draw Add line instead. A failed import does not change the plan. Layers & Objects for sketches Open Layers & Objects on the left (above the sketch stack). Measurement tool Measurements check distance and area on screen. They are not a permanent drawing. Zones that must export belong as Add rectangle, Add circle, or Add shape. 1. Open Measurement tool. 2. Choose Measure line or Measure area. 3. Click points on the map. 4. Read Total on the measurement. 5. Clear measurement when finished. Zoom in for precise clicks at junctions. Measure line is a path; Measure area is a closed polygon. Neither appears on the PDF. Drawn shapes can show their own size. After you select a line or shape, the ruler control is Toggle measurement. That does belong to the object. Still: only geometry inside an export map prints. Scale Scale: (bottom right) controls how large signs and drawings appear relative to the map. Default is 1.0. Lower values shrink objects so more can fit on Detail export pages. The slider runs from 0.1 to 1.0. Address search, zoom, and this slider together: Search address, zoom, and Scale. 1. Click Scale: and move the slider. 2. If Confirm scale change appears, read it. Body: To ensure optimal results with the new scale (0.5), your detail export maps will be reset and need to be redefined. The scale function gives you more control over the size of objects like lines and traffic signs. (the number is the scale you picked). 3. Notes on that dialog: Scale 1.0 is the default. If you lower the scale (e.g., to 0.5), all objects will shrink, and detail export maps must be redrawn. This helps keep traffic signs readable when exported or printed. And: PDF preview and XL maps will be kept because their scale is based on the selected export map. 4. Confirm only if you accept redrawing those Detail rectangles. Cancel leaves the previous scale. 5. Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. Turn PDF preview Off first. PDF preview. Prefer setting scale before you finalise many Detail maps. After a change, re-check export framing and sign size on PDF. Coordinates and address Select a sign stack and open Details. Coordinates lists Latitude and Longitude. Address shows the reverse-geocoded street when the app has one. Use Search address (Type to search address) to jump around. Use coordinates when someone asks for an exact point. Sketches do not get an Address row. If you need a labelled point for a crew, place a sign or a traffic-controller post instead of only Add text. What prints Sketches, GPX, and text notes print only on map pages, and only where they sit inside an export rectangle (Detail or XL). A detour line that stops just outside Map 1 is missing from that page. They do not appear on the Materials list. They do not appear on Post orders. A measurement Total never prints. Draw the export map after the sketch, or redraw the rectangle so the sketch is inside it. Export and print traffic plans. What good looks like Detour lines sit on the carriageway, not in gardens. Colours are consistent. GPX matches the intended route. Scale: is set before you draw lots of Detail maps. Measurements you needed for a decision are cleared so they do not clutter the screen. Map layers and Melvin
still — Layers & Objects list still — Melvin overlay toggled on (or control state) motion — open Select map, toggle layer, Melvin The map is more than a background. You change basemaps, turn on Dutch data layers where they exist, and use Show Melvin when plan dates are set. Your placed signs remain the plan of record. Layers are supporting context: hydrants, cabinets, sewers, amenities, heat, hectometre posts, existing NDW signs, and Flanders GRB. Use this when you need aerials, Dutch roadworks, cadastral extras, or a Flanders basemap. Skip it to place signs or export. Coverage is not nationwide. Empty layers usually mean zoom, country, or dates — not a broken plan. Missing layer data does not block you from drawing. Work in this order on a Dutch Demo traffic plan: set Country, fill Start date and End date, Search address to Utrecht, pick a clear basemap, then tick only the extras you will actually use on paper. On a Belgian plan, skip the Dutch checkboxes and use GRB (Flanders) as the basemap. Event plans use a shorter Select map list — Event map layers. Select map Select map panel with basemap styles and Dutch data layers 1. Open Select map on the left (world-map icon). 2. Pick a basemap. Common styles: Cartographic, Hybrid, Light Gray. If a style has no title, the fallback label is Map. 3. For a Belgian plan, GRB (Flanders) also appears in this list. It is a Flanders reference basemap, not a Dutch overlay. Basemap choice affects on-screen context and usually the look of exported map pages. Prefer a clear basemap before final export. Switching can take a moment; wait until the map finishes updating. If the plan Country is not Belgium, GRB (Flanders) is hidden. If you had GRB selected and then switch the plan to the Netherlands, the map falls back to Cartographic. Optional data checkboxes sit under the styles. They only show when the plan Country is the Netherlands. Locked rows show This layer is locked. Clicking a locked object on the map can toast the same line. Show Melvin Editor header with Show Melvin when dates are set Show Melvin / Hide Melvin is in the editor header. It is a Netherlands roadworks overlay. The button only appears for Dutch plans. Melvin needs complete dates. Until both are filled, the control stays disabled: Fill in a date to use this option. 1. Set Start date and End date (date and time). Start must be before end. 2. Pan to a location in the Netherlands. 3. Click Show Melvin. It becomes Hide Melvin when the overlay is on. 4. Treat what you see as context. Place and own your own signs. Melvin does not add plates to your catalogue or your materials list. An empty overlay can be correct: no overlapping roadworks for that time and place. A Demo traffic plan dated next March on a quiet Utrecht side street may show nothing useful. That is not a broken plan. If nothing useful appears after you toggle it, see Melvin or map layers not showing. Traffic signs (NDW) Netherlands-only checkbox in Select map: Traffic signs (NDW). This is existing-sign data from the national database. It is not your catalogue. Zoom in if the layer looks empty. NDW signs do not count toward your free sign limit and do not appear on the materials list. Use it to see what is already on street furniture before you add a temporary plate. Turn it off before export if the extra symbols crowd the PDF. BGT objects BGT objects is a set of large-scale Dutch topographic objects (hydrants, cabinets, poles, and similar). The count next to the name is how many object types you have selected. The checkbox can sit in a mixed (indeterminate) state when only some types are on. Visible from about scale 1:50,000 and closer. Zoomed out, the hint is Zoom in further to show BGT objects. Configure BGT objects 1. Tick BGT objects. 2. Open Configure BGT objects (gear). 3. The panel title is BGT objects. 4. Layer visible turns the whole layer Enabled or Disabled. 5. Tick types under the three groups below. Select all / Clear all / Done. 6. The back arrow closes the panel and returns to Select map. Click a BGT symbol on the map for a popup: Type, Status, Source holder, Identification. BGT does not specify whether a container is underground. That hint sits on Containers. Emergency and safety | Object | Use it when | |--------|-------------| | Fire hydrants | You need hydrant positions for access or parking bans | | Cameras | Camera poles or cabinets that affect a stack location | Sewer and utilities | Object | Use it when | |--------|-------------| | Inspection and sewer manholes | Manhole lids in the carriageway or footway | | Sewer cabinets | Roadside sewer kiosks | | Drainage pits | Drainage collection points | | Water-main pits | Water-main access | | Gas pits | Gas-network pits | | Electricity cabinets | Electrical distribution cabinets | | Pumps | Utility pumps in public space | Traffic and public space | Object | Use it when | |--------|-------------| | Containers | Street containers. Remember: underground vs above-ground is not in BGT | | Height detectors | Height-detection devices | | Traffic-signal poles | Traffic-signal poles (not your temporary plates) | | Bollards | Removable or fixed bollards | | Barrier gates | Barrier / boom gates | | Bus-stop poles | Bus-stop poles | | Road markings | Mapped road-marking objects | Turn on only what the works need. A full selection on an Amsterdam inner-city export page is unreadable. A practical Utrecht default is Fire hydrants, Electricity cabinets, and Bollards. Add Traffic-signal poles and Bus-stop poles at junctions. Leave Road markings off unless you are arguing about existing paint. Leave Cameras off unless privacy or sightlines matter. The English labels above are exactly what Configure BGT objects shows. Translations also exist for Sirens and Emergency telephones, but those types are not in the current configure list — you cannot tick them. Extra Dutch layers (supplemental) Still in Select map, still Netherlands-only. Each row can show a small count of selected types. Configurable layers open a panel with the same Layer visible (Enabled / Disabled), Select all, Clear all, and Done as BGT. Sewer system (GWSW) Sewer system (GWSW) — inspection manholes, sewer pipes, pumps, and related objects. Short hint: Updated weekly; visible up to scale 1:10,000 and coverage varies by municipality. Attribution in the configure panel: Source: Stichting RIONED and Esri Nederland. Availability varies by municipality. Zoom in past about 1:10,000. A municipality that has not published GWSW will look empty. Tick any of: | Object | What it is | |--------|------------| | Inspection manholes | Inspection pits | | Sewer manholes | Sewer manholes | | Overflows | Overflow pits | | Discharge points | Discharge pits | | Pumps | Sewer pumps | | Sewer pipes | Pipes (drawn as lines) | GWSW and BGT both have manholes and pumps. They are different datasets. You can run both; expect overlap. If you only need lids in the carriageway, Inspection and sewer manholes under BGT is usually enough. Use GWSW when the municipality asked for the sewer network, including Sewer pipes. Amenities (OpenStreetMap) Amenities (OpenStreetMap) — points contributed to OpenStreetMap. Short hint: Updated daily; completeness depends on OpenStreetMap contributions. Attribution: © OpenStreetMap contributors, powered by Esri Nederland. Visible up to about scale 1:50,000. Completeness is volunteer data. An AED that exists on street may be missing here. Tick any of: | Object | What it is | |--------|------------| | AEDs | Defibrillators | | Public toilets | Public toilets | | Drinking-water points | Drinking-water taps | | Parking | Parking areas | | Bicycle parking | Bicycle parking | | Bus stops | Bus stops | | Charging stations | EV charging | | Traffic signals | Traffic signals | Heat & heat stress Heat & heat stress is not a type list. It is one modelled overlay: Perceived temperature (heat stress). It is not a live thermometer. Open About the heat-stress map: This modelled map shows perceived temperature on an extremely hot summer afternoon, based on the spatial situation in 2022. It highlights where buildings, paved surfaces, limited wind and a lack of shade increase heat stress. This is not a current temperature measurement and local results are indicative. Source line: Source: Climate Impact Atlas, Nelen & Schuurmans. Current as of April 2025; map version: 2022. Use it as context for event comfort or shade, not as a weather forecast for Demo traffic plan’s Start date. Turn Heat & heat stress off before a contractor PDF. The colour wash fights sign colours and does not belong on a permit drawing unless the municipality asked for heat context. Hectometer points (RWS) Hectometer points (RWS) — Rijkswaterstaat hectometre markers along national roads. Not configurable beyond on/off. Visible from about scale 1:24,000; labels (kilometre + side) appear when you zoom closer (about 1:10,000). If the service fails when you tick it: The Rijkswaterstaat layer is temporarily unavailable. Attribution: Bron: Rijkswaterstaat, Nationaal Wegen Bestand (NWB). TopoRD (Netherlands only) Still under Select map, Netherlands-only: TopoRD (Netherlands only). It is an extra topographic backdrop. Warning when the map centre is outside the Netherlands: Only available when the map center is in the Netherlands. Pan the map into the Netherlands if you need it. It does not replace your sign catalogue. GRB (Flanders) GRB (Flanders) is a basemap for Belgian plans, listed with Cartographic and Hybrid. It is not a checkbox under the Dutch extras. 1. Set plan Country to Belgium. 2. Open Select map. 3. Choose GRB (Flanders). 4. Work in Flanders. Coverage is not the whole of Belgium. If GRB (Flanders) is missing, the plan Country is not Belgium. GRB can take a moment to appear in the list after you open Select map on a Belgian plan. Open the menu again if it is not there yet. If the service cannot load, stay on Cartographic or Hybrid and keep placing signs. Your plan is still valid without GRB. Map information legend When BGT or supplemental layers are on during PDF export, the file can add a Map information page. It lists the object types that were actually visible, with a colour dot per type, plus source lines for GWSW, OSM, heat, or hectometre data. That page is a legend for the supporting layers. It is not your Materials list. Turn off unused types before Export now so both the map pages and Map information stay short. On-screen you already have the configure panels and, for BGT, the popup fields Type, Status, Source holder, Identification. The legend lists every selected and visible type from the catalogues below, not every type that exists in the Netherlands. If Fire hydrants is ticked but you never zoomed in, the hydrants may be missing on the map page and missing or incomplete on Map information. Zoom in on the export rectangle before Export now. Layers & Objects The second button in the layer stack is Layers & Objects. That list is your drawing, not NDW or BGT. Typical groups: Traffic Signs, Lines & Shapes, Text Areas, Bulk Placement, GPX Imports. Empty groups mean nothing is drawn there yet: No objects found. | Action | Purpose | |--------|---------| | Lock layer / Unlock layer | Stop accidental edits on a whole group | | Lock object / Unlock object | Protect one item | | Zoom to object | Centre the map on that object | Stacks can show a code plus (+2) when more plates sit on the same post, and an address line when one exists. Fallbacks: Sign, Shape, Text Area, Bulk line (12 signs) (the number is that line’s count), GPX Route. Lock base sketches before you place many signs. This layer is locked if you try to edit a locked item. Layers & Objects is also how you find a stack you buried under BGT symbols. Zoom to object, then turn BGT off if the hydrants are in the way. Your signs stay; the overlay is only context. Zoom and scale cheat sheet | Layer | Zoom / scale hint | |-------|-------------------| | BGT objects | Zoom in further to show BGT objects. Turn off what you do not need before export so pages stay readable. What good looks like The basemap is readable at street zoom. Show Melvin is on only while you need works context, then off. BGT objects is configured to Fire hydrants and Electricity cabinets (or the types you actually use), not all sixteen. GWSW or OSM is on only if the municipality asked. Advanced sign placement
still — Connected/Separated placement mode on bulk panel still — selected stack with PRO displace controls available Some placement tools sit behind an organization or Pro account. Paying to unlock unlimited signs on one plan (Paid) does not always turn these on. Everyday one-by-one placement is in Working with signs. Use this for a long row of the same sign, or when stacks overlap at a junction. Skip it if you only place a handful of plates. If a control is blocked, believe the tooltip. Then see Feature not available for my account. Bulk signs (organization) Bulk signs repeats one sign along a drawn line — cones, barriers, or repeating temporary plates along a corridor. The tool sits in the left map stack, under the sketch tools. Personal accounts still see it, but it stays disabled: Pro feature and You need an organization account to use bulk sign placement. Switch to an organization workspace such as Acme Events if that is where the tool is enabled. Bulk signs tool on the left map stack Place a bulk line 1. Click Bulk signs. 2. Draw along the roadway (click points; double-click to finish). 3. The picker title is Select sign for bulk line. 4. Search catalog is the search heading. The field placeholder is Search by code or description. Type a code such as C01. Clear empties the field. 5. Recommended signs appear first (count such as 12 signs). If nothing in that group matches: No recommended signs match your search. If the organization has not starred any: Admins have not recommended any signs yet. 6. Expand Other signs for the full catalogue. Hint when collapsed: Expand to access the full catalog. After a search: Showing search results from the full catalog. If every plate is already in Recommended signs: All available signs are already recommended. 7. If nothing at all matches: No signs match "C01". Try a different code or description. 8. Footer: 21 signs shown (the count the picker prints) and Click a sign to assign it to the bulk line. 9. Click a sign. The picker closes. Bulk line placed on the roadway with the Bulk sign panel A cyan line and a Bulk sign panel appear. The info title is Bulk sign placement. Description: Adjust how this bulk line distributes the selected sign along the roadway. Connected vs Separated Set Placement mode. The toggle tooltip is Toggle between Connected and Separated placement. | Mode | What it does | Extra control | |------|----------------|---------------| | Connected | Plates sit flush | Length | | Separated | Plates sit with a gap | Distance | Connected help: Connected mode places each sign directly against the next one, ideal for continuous rows. Connected mode keeps each sign flush by using this length. Length info: We use this length to keep each sign connected to the next one. Increase it for larger signs. Separated help: Separated mode distributes signs along the full line, leaving the selected distance between each sign. Separated mode keeps this many meters between each sign. Distance info: We repeat the selected sign every X meters along the line. Lower distance means more signs. Read the quantity on the panel (for example a count × line length) so you can see how dense the row is. Connected suits continuous rows (cones, barriers). Separated suits readable gaps between plates. Expand details / Collapse details (aria Expand bulk sign details / Collapse bulk sign details) hides the mode sliders when you need map space. Edit or remove Select the bulk line. The toolbar: | Control | Purpose | |---------|---------| | Move | Reposition the whole line | | Rotate | Turn the line | | Edit sign | Opens Select sign for bulk line again so you can pick a different plate | | Duplicate (optional) | Copy the line when that control is shown | | Remove bulk sign | Delete the line | Quantities feed the Materials list. Excel can list Bulk placement, quantity: 21 (the count the export prints). Check export after a large bulk line. Bulk counts toward the free sign limit Free sign limits still apply on unpaid plans outside participating areas. Each plate the line generates counts. Bulk signs can exhaust the allowance (currently 5 counting signs) in one stroke. If the next placement is blocked, follow Sign limit reached or Utrecht is not yet participating — I can’t place more signs. A Paid badge on Demo traffic plan lifts the sign cap on that plan. It does not turn Bulk signs on for Personal. Find the line later under Layers & Objects → Bulk Placement (for example Bulk line (21 signs)). Lock object / Unlock object and Zoom to object work the same as for sketches. Displace sign stack (Pro) At busy junctions, stacks overlap. Displace sign stack keeps the real coordinate in place and draws the plates offset, joined by a leader line and an origin marker. The product names this family Move sign stacks. Tooltip: Move sign stacks away from their exact coordinate. The control on the selected sign, next to Move sign, is Displace sign stack. 1. Click the stack. 2. Press Displace sign stack and drag the drawing aside. 3. Confirm the origin marker stays on the carriageway and a leader line connects it to the plates. 4. Save. 5. Check PDF so the paper view matches what you intend. Without Pro access, the button stays inactive. Tooltip heading Pro feature. Body: You need a PRO account to displace traffic signs. Paying for unlimited signs on one plan does not turn it on. Displacement is drawing clarity. Crews still need the real-world position (origin marker / Coordinates in Details). Do not treat the offset plates as the install point. If PDF preview is On and the preview map is unlocked, you may need Lock preview map before you can select a stack (Lock the preview map to select this object.). What good looks like A bulk line follows the kerb, with Connected or Separated matching how the crew will set out. The materials count looks believable. PDF preview shows how traffic signs will sit on paper while you are still drawing. It is not a download. It is an on-map rehearsal for an XL export page: signs shrink or grow to the paper-relative size of the selected XL rectangle and Paper size. Use this when a Demo traffic plan covers a long Utrecht corridor and Detail pages cannot frame the whole works without shrinking signs below a readable size. Skip it for a single junction that already fits a Detail map. Skip it if you only need a share link. The control lives on the right of the map, with Enable sign stacking and Show labels. It is a Pro tool. Paying for unlimited signs on one plan (Paid) does not turn it on. If you cannot see it, read Feature not available for my account. The customer-facing name is PDF preview. Older internal notes said “Big Picture”. The app does not use that name on the button, the tooltip, or the toasts. Who can use it PDF preview only appears when your account can manage XL maps (the same Pro gate as Displace sign stack and XL under Draw new map). Without that permission: - The PDF preview chip is missing in edit mode. - In Export maps, XL stays disabled with a Pro badge and XL maps require a PRO account. Read-only viewers never see PDF preview. Sketch tools and the scale slider are also hidden for them. Organization members who are not the assigned editor are read-only, so they cannot turn preview on either. The tooltip on the chip is Preview this plan at the selected export paper scale. Hover Show PDF preview when the state is Off, and Hide PDF preview when the state is On. On and Off PDF preview On — Detail mode and Draw preview map The chip reads PDF preview plus a state badge. The labels on this control are PDF preview On / Off, Select XL map, Draw XL map, Lock preview map, and Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. | State | Badge | Tooltip | |-------|-------|---------| | Preview off | Off | Show PDF preview | | Preview on | On | Hide PDF preview | 1. Click PDF preview to turn it On. The chip turns orange. 2. Click it again to turn it Off. Signs return to normal editor size. Turning On does not download a PDF. It also does not create an export file. You still use Export → Export files when someone needs a document. Export and print traffic plans. While On, extra controls appear next to the chip: a map selector, a manage-export shortcut (when the selector is empty), and a draw button. Detail mode versus XL map 1 With preview On, a dropdown appears. The empty option is Detail mode. Each existing XL rectangle is listed as XL map 1, XL map 2, and so on. | Choice | Meaning | |--------|---------| | Detail mode | No XL rectangle is driving the preview. Signs are not sized to a paper page. Use this while you only want preview off the XL context, or before you have drawn an XL map | | XL map 1 | That XL rectangle and its Paper size become the sizing context. Signs on the whole map preview at that paper-relative size, not only the signs inside the rectangle | The dropdown tooltip is Select XL map. Only one XL map is active for preview at a time. You can store several XL rectangles for export, but the editor preview uses the one you pick here. Detail mode in this dropdown is not the same as a Detail export map. Detail export maps still exist in Export maps. They keep a maximum real-world size so signs stay readable. XL maps do not have that maximum; they cover a large area and scale signs to the paper. If the selector is sitting on Detail mode (empty), a layers button appears next to it. Tooltip: Manage export maps. It opens Export maps so you can inspect Map 1, change Paper size, or draw another rectangle. A plan can mix both types. Example: XL map 1 as an overview of Amsterdam works on A3, plus three Detail maps for junctions. Preview only cares about the XL map you select. Draw an XL map for preview Preview needs an XL rectangle and a paper size. Without both, the app cannot compute a paper-relative sign size. If you have no XL map yet, the draw button is labelled Draw preview map. After you have at least one XL map, the same control shrinks to a plus icon. Tooltip: Draw new XL map. Steps 1. Turn PDF preview On. 2. Click Draw preview map (or the plus icon). 3. A popover opens with Paper size. Series are grouped (A-series, and Other for anything ungrouped). A4 is the default when it exists. 4. Pick the paper you will actually print, for example A3. You can still use Change orientation on the rectangle later. 5. Click Draw XL map. The popover closes. 6. A toast appears: Draw an XL map on the map. Drag a rectangle over the works. 7. After the rectangle exists, a second toast: XL map created. Unlock the preview map to move or resize it. 8. The dropdown switches to XL map 1 (or the next number). If you click the draw control again while a draw is already in progress, the same prompt repeats: Draw an XL map on the map. Cancel the draw (Escape, or click away as the map allows) and no rectangle is stored. PDF preview can stay On; pick Detail mode until you draw again. You can also create XL rectangles from Export → Export maps → Draw new map → XL. Those maps appear in the PDF preview dropdown as XL map 1, XL map 2, and so on. Preview still needs you to select one of them. Without Pro, XL in that sidebar stays disabled: XL maps require a PRO account. Paper size on the preview rectangle Once an XL map is selected, a small toolbar sits on the top edge of the rectangle (the same chrome as in export mode, plus a lock). | Control | Does | |---------|------| | Lock | Lock preview map / Unlock preview map (preview only; see below) | | Paper size | A4, A3, and the other sizes in the list that this rectangle allows | | Export type | Detail or XL. Preview sizing only uses XL | | Change orientation | Portrait or landscape | | Remove export map | Deletes that rectangle | Match what the municipality or printer asked for. An XL map on A4 is valid. Content scales to that page. It is not infinite paper. Changing Paper size or orientation immediately changes how large signs look in preview. Zooming the map does not. If a stack occupies about a tenth of the page, it keeps that relationship while you pan. Switching the type to Detail takes the rectangle out of the PDF preview dropdown. Use XL for preview. Remove export map deletes the rectangle. If it was the active preview map, the dropdown falls back to Detail mode. If a Detail rectangle hits its limit: This detail map has reached its maximum size. Switch it to XL map if you want to export a larger map. That message is about Detail maps in export, not about preview itself. Convert the rectangle to XL if Pro allows, or draw a new XL map from PDF preview. Lock preview map and Unlock preview map New XL maps start locked for preview. That is why the create toast says Unlock the preview map to move or resize it. | State | Button | Use | |-------|--------|-----| | Locked | Unlock preview map | Click signs, stacks, and sketches through the rectangle | | Unlocked | Lock preview map | Drag or resize the XL rectangle itself | While the rectangle is unlocked, clicks on objects inside it can be captured as rectangle edits. If you try to select a sign through an unlocked preview map, a toast says Lock the preview map to select this object. Typical rhythm for a Demo traffic plan: 1. Unlock preview map, frame the Utrecht works, set Paper size. 2. Lock preview map. 3. Place, Displace sign stack, and tidy labels at paper scale. 4. Unlock preview map only when the frame is wrong. Displace sign stack is the Pro tool that draws a stack away from its real coordinate with a leader line. It is especially useful while PDF preview is On, because crowded junctions overlap more once signs are paper-sized. Advanced sign placement. Show labels / Hide labels still work in preview. Crew Labels that looked fine at screen size can collide on A4. Fix them while preview is On. Scale is disabled while preview is on Scale: (bottom right of the map, default 1.0) cannot move while PDF preview is On. The control looks faded. Hover or focus it: Scale cannot be changed while PDF preview is on. That is deliberate. Preview sizing comes from the XL rectangle and Paper size, not from the editor Scale: slider. Turn preview Off if you need to change Scale:. If you do change Scale: later (preview off) and the plan already has Detail export maps, confirm Confirm scale change. The dialog body: To ensure optimal results with the new scale (0.5), your detail export maps will be reset and need to be redefined. The scale function gives you more control over the size of objects like lines and traffic signs. (the number is the scale you picked, for example 0.5). Notes in that dialog: - Scale 1.0 is the default. If you lower the scale (e.g., to 0.5), all objects will shrink, and detail export maps must be redrawn. This helps keep traffic signs readable when exported or printed. - PDF preview and XL maps will be kept because their scale is based on the selected export map. Confirm only if you accept redrawing Detail maps. Drawing and measuring. Do not fight Scale: while preview is on. The disabled tooltip is the whole answer. How preview relates to a real PDF PDF preview is a drawing aid. It is not a substitute for opening the downloaded file. After you like the paper-scale layout: 1. Turn PDF preview Off if the extra chrome is in the way (optional; export mode has its own overlay). 2. Click Export. 3. Prefer Sharable link if the municipality can work from a URL. 4. For a file: Export files → Include map → Export map. 5. In Export maps, confirm each Map 1 is Detail or XL as you intended, with the same Paper size you previewed. 6. Export now. Keep the tab open. Open the PDF and check every page. XL pages in the file should match what you saw in preview for that rectangle. Detail pages still use the normal minimum sign size. Materials list and post orders are separate pages. Preview does not show them. Materials list and post orders. Combination boards preview at the same paper-relative size as other plates. Materials list and post orders
The Materials list is the packing list for a traffic plan: which plates, how many, and how they sit on a post. Post orders are the instructions for traffic controllers at those posts. You write both in the editor. You include them when you export files. Use this when a contractor, municipality, or crew asked for a list, an Excel, or a sheet of controller orders. Skip it while you are still placing the first signs. Skip it if the municipality will work from a Sharable link only. A share-link viewer can see posts on the map. They cannot type Orders. Organization members who are not the assigned editor are also read-only. This page is the lists. Drawing export rectangles and running Export now is in Export and print traffic plans. Combination-board names are set in Combination signs. A typical Acme Events pack for Utrecht is: one Detail PDF per junction, one XL overview if you have Pro, a Materials list PDF the contractor can pick from, optional Excel for the spreadsheet workflow, and Post orders if traffic controllers sit on the plan. Turn the lists on at export Click Export. The screen is How would you like to export your map? Sharable link is RECOMMENDED. It does not attach a materials PDF. The live map is the document. Export files is the file path. Warning: Only recommended when a municipality or 3rd party explicitly asks for this. Toggles in that column: | Toggle | Label | What you get | |--------|-------|----------------| | Map | Include map | PDF pages for each export rectangle | | Materials | Include materials list | Then PDF and/or Excel | | Posts | Include post orders | Extra PDF pages for controller orders | Include post orders only appears when this country’s catalogue has post signs. If your catalogue has none, the toggle is absent. The main button is Export map if you included a map (Excel also needs a rectangle). Otherwise it is Export files. You need at least one of map, materials PDF, Excel, or post orders enabled. In Export maps the same choices appear with slightly different labels: | Sidebar label | Same as | |---------------|---------| | Map pages | Include map | | Materials list | Include materials list | | Post instructions | Include post orders | When Materials list is on in the sidebar, two format buttons appear: Materials PDF (the button text is PDF) and Materials Excel (the button text is Excel). You can export materials or post orders without map pages. You still usually want a rectangle so Excel can fill the Drawing column. Export progress names the extra work: Adding materials list, Creating Excel, Adding post instructions. Row labels include Materials list, Materials list Excel, and Post instructions, with Building the materials list, Creating the Excel file, and Building the post instructions. Keep the tab open. If the job is slow: This is taking longer than usual. A slow network connection can delay map tiles and layers. Please keep this window open while the export finishes. If layers lagged: Some map layers took longer than expected to load. The export may be incomplete; please check the PDF before using it. Failure: Something went wrong while creating your export. / Export failed. Export fails or is blank. Materials PDF Example exported PDF — materials list page The PDF title is Materials list. Empty document: No materials found. The main table columns: | Column | Contains | |--------|----------| | (preview) | Sign image | | Sign | Catalogue code, or the combination-board Name | | Text | Inscription and Label: plus the crew tag when a stack has a Label | | Qty | How many of that plate | Rows are grouped by catalogue category, for example W — Roadwork or EV — Events. Ungrouped items fall under Other. Labels can appear as its own group for tag plates. A missing code falls back to Sign. A crew tag in Text is prefixed **Label: **. If a label row has no artwork, the preview box shows LBL. The materials PDF is always A4 portrait, even if your map pages are A3 landscape. It has the same plan header as the map pages (title, dates, logo). Check the last pages of the download; do not stop at the drawings. Combination boards use the Name you set in Edit sign (This is how it appears on the material list.). Default name is Combination sign. Size such as 130 x 90 is part of that board’s identity on the list. Combination signs. Bulk lines do not appear as one plate per cone. Excel records them as Bulk placement, quantity: 24 (the number is that line’s count) in Remark. Post-instruction signs are omitted from the materials totals. They belong on Post orders. Stacked signs After the totals, a second block can appear: Stacked signs. Note under the heading: This is a mounting overview per post. The quantities for the individual signs are already included in the materials totals above. Do not order those plates twice. Qty in Stacked signs is how many times that mounting combination occurs, not extra stock. Stacked table columns: | Column | Contains | |--------|----------| | (preview) | Plates in order on the post | | Stack | Numbered codes on that post | | Text | Inscriptions on those plates | | Qty | How many identical stacks | A Demo traffic plan with three identical C12 + under-plate stacks in Utrecht shows Qty 3 in Stacked signs, and the same plates already counted in the category totals above. Single-plate locations do not need the stacked block. Enable Enable sign stacking while drawing if two plates share a pole; otherwise the list treats them as two posts. Working with signs. Materials Excel (Pro) Excel is a Pro format. Description: Download the materials list as an Excel file with a total tab and one tab per drawing. Unsaved changes are saved before the Excel is generated. The workbook title is Materials list - Demo traffic plan (the plan name). Row 2 includes Online plan, a hyperlink to the public traffic-plan URL, next to the plan title. Tabs | Tab | Contents | |-----|----------| | Total | Every row in the plan | | 1, 2, 3, … | Rows whose coordinates fall inside that export map (Map 1, Map 2, …) | You need at least one export map for a useful Drawing column. Please try again. | Toast after a failed download | | Preparing Excel... | Status while the file is built | | Creating Excel / Creating the Excel file | Export progress rows | Paying for unlimited signs (Paid) does not unlock Excel. Organization / Pro permission does. Feature not available for my account. If Excel fails after Export now, try again, then Export fails or is blank. You can still send Materials PDF. Excel is a spreadsheet of rows, not a picture of the board. Combination previews live on the PDF Materials list. Use both if the contractor picks from photos and the municipality wants a sheet. A sign that sits in two export rectangles appears on both numbered tabs and once on Total. Drawing then lists both numbers, for example 1,2. That is not a double order; it tells you which pages show the plate. Post orders in the editor Open Posts on the right strip (the Traffic Objects rail). The panel title is Post orders. Subtitle: Manage traffic controllers and their orders per post. Posts / post orders sidebar If this country has no post catalogue items, Posts may be hidden. The export toggle Include post orders is also hidden. The panel has two blocks. Post items Post items is the catalogue of post signs for this country. Click one, then click the map, the same way you place any other sign. Empty: No post signs available for this country. Change Country if you opened a Belgian catalogue on a Dutch works, or the other way around. Posts Posts lists every placed post, in the order the crew should visit them. Empty: No post signs placed yet. Place a post item first. Each card: | Control | Does | |---------|------| | Code and description | Which post sign this is | | Address and coordinates | Street, number, postcode, city, then latitude, longitude | | Go to post | Pans the map to that location and flashes a marker | | Orange number plus Post | Visit order (1, 2, 3, …) | | Move post up | Swap with the previous post | | Move post down | Swap with the next post | | Post name (label) | Crew tag on that stack. Placeholder Add a post name... | | Orders | Free-text instructions. Placeholder Add post orders for this location... | Move post up / Move post down are disabled at the ends of the list. They are also disabled when you cannot edit. Post name (label) is the same Label as on Details (maximum 20 characters). Too long: Only 20 characters are allowed. Empty removes the label. Orders is the controller text, for example “Close Neude from 06:00. Radio channel 2. Meet the Acme Events steward at the loading bay.” From a selected post sign on Details you may also see Manage post orders? Open post orders. That jumps to this panel and highlights the card. Toasts if the panel cannot load or save: Could not load post instructions, Could not save post instructions. Try Save again, then reload the plan. Write Orders in the language the crew reads. The PDF does not translate them. Empty Orders still export the row; the Orders column shows a dash. Empty Post name also shows a dash. A traffic-controller post is a catalogue sign flagged as a post item. It is not a combination board and not a bulk line. Do not stack two post signs on one pole unless the crew truly stands there as one unit; visit order is per placed post, not per plate in a mixed stack. Post orders PDF and the Google Maps link On the export choice screen, enable Include post orders. In Export maps, enable Post instructions. Then Export now. The PDF title is Post orders. Empty page: No post orders found. Fill Orders before the crew PDF goes out if you enabled the extra pages. PDF columns: | Column | Contains | |--------|----------| | Post | Visit number, sign code, address, coordinates | | Post name | The Post name (label) | | Orders | The instruction text | | Map | Open in Maps when coordinates exist, otherwise a dash | Open in Maps is a Google Maps link for that latitude and longitude. Crews open it from the PDF on a phone. The in-app name for that link type is Google Maps; the PDF button text is Open in Maps. There is no separate Google Maps control on the editor card; Go to post recentres your map, and the PDF Map column is what you send to someone else. If coordinates are missing, Map is a dash and there is nothing to tap. Place the post on the map first, wait for Auto-save: saved, then export again. Export progress: Adding post instructions / Building the post instructions. Include checkboxes, recap You can attach the lists without printing every map page, but most file packs want all three. 1. Save, or wait for Auto-save: saved. 2. Export → Export files. 3. Include map if you need drawings. 4. Include materials list, then PDF and (if Pro) Excel. 5. Include post orders if you placed post signs and wrote Orders. 6. Export map or Export files. 7. Use Draw new map below to add a Detail or XL map.). 9. Export now. Read-only export mode cannot draw new rectangles. Empty description: No export maps have been added to this plan. What good looks like The PDF Materials list Qty matches what you see on the map. Stacked signs is a mounting overview only. Excel Total plus tab 1 cover the Utrecht overview map. Combination boards show the Name you typed, not five generic Combination sign rows. Post orders visit order 1…n matches the route, each card has Orders, and Open in Maps works from the PDF. You opened the files before you emailed them. Walk through one pack before the first event of the season. Place two ordinary plates, one combination board with a unique Name, one bulk line if you have it, and two post signs with Orders. Share a plan and read-only view
Every traffic plan has a public address. Anyone with that URL can open the map read-only. They do not need an account. The link is the same Sharable link you copy from Export, and the same Copy link on Plans. Export choice: Sharable link recommended versus Export files Public share view — Account menu, no Signs catalogue, map still pans Use this when a municipality, contractor, or colleague should see the current drawing without placing signs. Skip it if you were asked for a frozen PDF — that is Export and print traffic plans. Skip it if you need a municipal review session with comments and a lock; that is a different workflow. The public URL is the plan’s UUID, not a secret token layered on top. Treat it like a document you would email. This is the live document most municipalities prefer. Export files is the slower path, marked Only recommended when a municipality or 3rd party explicitly asks for this. Use both only when someone asked for a file and a link. What the URL looks like After the plan exists, the address is: https://traffic-chart.com/traffic-plans/ plus the plan id. The id is a UUID, for example: https://traffic-chart.com/traffic-plans/3f8c2a91-4b10-4c7e-9d2a-1f6e8b0c4d55 That whole string is the share link. There is no extra password screen. There is no “viewer role” to assign on the link itself. Until the plan is saved the first time, Sharable link can show Save your plan to generate link... and Copy stays disabled. Create the plan, wait for Auto-save: saved (or click Save), then copy. A brand-new Demo traffic plan has no UUID to share until that first save. The link stays current after you save. When you change signs on Demo traffic plan, the next person who opens the URL sees the saved drawing. They do not see unsaved local edits. Wait for Auto-save: saved, or click Save. Duplicate creates a new plan with a new UUID. Paid does not carry over. Move into an organization keeps the same public link. Copy into an organization creates a second plan with a new link. Create, organise, and share traffic plans. Copy the link From Plans 1. Open Plans for the right workspace (Switch workspace if Personal and Acme Events both exist). 2. Find the row, for example Demo traffic plan. 3. Open the ⋮ menu. 4. Click Copy link. From the editor 1. Click Export. 2. The title is How would you like to export your map? 3. The left column is Sharable link, marked RECOMMENDED. 4. Click Copy. Success on the button reads Success! A toast reads Link copied to clipboard. Benefits on that panel: - Accepted by most municipalities — Municipalities prefer digital links for real-time updates. - Fastest way to get a permit — No need to wait for PDF generation and email attachments. - Also saves some trees — Digital sharing is eco-friendly. Export files is the other column, with Only recommended when a municipality or 3rd party explicitly asks for this. During review, an organiser can also use Copy shareable link. Copied: Link copied to clipboard. Failure: Could not copy the link. What a public viewer can do The header says Plan is read-only. They can: - Pan the map (drag the background). - Zoom with Zoom in / Zoom out, the wheel, or a trackpad. - Open Select map and look at basemaps and data layers that the plan already uses. - Open Layers & Objects to find stacks. - Read placed signs, sketches, combination boards, and (if present) post locations. They cannot: - Place, move, rotate, duplicate, or delete signs. - Draw sketches, import GPX, or measure as an editor. - Change Start date, End date, or the title. - Use Save or Auto-save. - Open PDF preview. - Draw or resize export maps (empty export copy: No export maps have been added to this plan.). - Type Orders on Post orders. - Open the combination-sign editor or its icon catalogue. Traffic Objects stays disabled. Tooltip: Plan is read-only. The other lock tooltips are Plan is approved and locked, Plan is under review, and Plan is locked when review is the reason instead of a public link. If they expected to draw, they opened the share URL. They should log in as the owner, Switch workspace, and Open the plan from Plans. I can’t open or edit a plan. Logging in on the same UUID does not magically grant the pen. The page is still the public traffic-plan route. Editors work from Plans → Open in the right workspace. If an Acme Events member who is not assigned editor logs in and opens the UUID, they remain read-only. Viewers can Zoom in / Zoom out. Search address is hidden in read-only (it sits with the sketch tools). They pan to the works themselves. Send a short note with the link: “Demo traffic plan — zoom to Neude, Utrecht.” No How to? The How to? control is hidden for read-only visitors. The tutorial video does not auto-open. Watch tutorial video from Help also does nothing for a guest, because the same How to? dialog is suppressed. That is intentional. A public URL is a drawing, not an onboarding screen. Logged-in editors still have Help (Email support, Browse the FAQ, Watch tutorial video) and Report bug. How to? is a separate control from Help. Guests do not see How to?. They may still see the Help rail, but Watch tutorial video will not open the tutorial while the plan is read-only. Do not tell a municipality contact to “click How to?” on your link. Point them at this help center instead. Combination boards: snapshot, not the editor A Combination sign on a shared plan shows the finished board: header, text, icons, Geel or Wit, 120 x 80 or 130 x 90. That is the snapshot stored when the editor clicked Save in Combination sign. Public reads do not include the editor catalogue: available icons, Size options, Colour preset swatches, or template rules. There is no Edit sign path that can rebuild the board. If the assigned editor later changes the board and saves the plan, the next viewer refresh shows the new snapshot. Combination signs. The same rule applies to ordinary plates, sketches, and post locations. The public payload is the saved plan. It is enough to render the map. It is not enough to rebuild a combination board in the editor. That catalogue (icons, sizes, colour presets) is editor-only. Ask a colleague to try the link in a private window before you send it to Utrecht. Confirm they can pan, zoom, and read the boards, and that they cannot place a sign. Organization members who are not the assigned editor A public UUID is one read-only path. An organization workspace is another. In Acme Events, everyone with access can Open Demo traffic plan. Only the assigned editor can change, duplicate, or delete it. Other members get the same Plan is read-only editor, even while logged in. Owners and Administrators use Assign editor on the plan menu. Dialog title example: Assign an editor to “Demo traffic plan — Amsterdam works”. Choose Assigned editor, then Save assignment. If the assigned editor’s membership is suspended, nobody can edit until someone reassigns the plan. A suspended member cannot open the private workspace (Your membership is suspended). They can still open a public share URL read-only. Team rules: Organizations and members. Read-only is not always a share link | Cause | Typical copy | What to do | |-------|--------------|------------| | Public URL, not the editor account | Plan is read-only | Log in, open from Plans | | Organization member, not assigned editor | Plan is read-only | Owner/Admin Assign editor | | Municipality review in progress | Plan is locked while under review / Plan is under review | Wait, or follow review comments | | Approved plan | This plan is locked because it has been approved plus Plan approved | Do not expect further edits | | Folder/plan lock | Plan is locked | Check review and workspace | Do not duplicate a plan that is in review unless the municipality asks. Duplicates can lose review history. Review for organisers. In-app Approved is not a legal permit. The municipality’s procedure still applies. Privacy: treat the URL like an emailed document Traffic Chart intends the UUID to be shareable. It is not an authorization vault. Anyone who has the full URL can view the map, including placed signs and combination-board snapshots. Do: - Send it to the municipality inbox, the contractor, or the Acme Events steward who needs it. - Prefer the link over a stale PDF when the drawing is still changing. - Recheck Auto-save: saved before you tell people it is ready. Do not: - Post the URL on public social media, an open Slack channel, or a public website. - Put it in a document that will be forwarded more widely than the works require. - Assume deleting a chat message revokes access. The UUID still works until you change how you share. If a link spread too widely, email customer@traffic-chart.com with the plan URL and what happened. Support can advise on the account. There is no self-serve “rotate UUID” button in the editor. A PDF is a snapshot in someone’s downloads folder. A share link is live. Choose on purpose. Event plans have their own Copy link. This page is traffic plans only. An event-plan URL does not unlock a traffic plan, and the other way around. If you Move Demo traffic plan from Personal into Acme Events, the UUID stays the same. People who already had the link keep seeing the same drawing, now owned by the organization. If you Copy, they still see the Personal original unless you send the new link. A share link is not a municipal Start review session. Reviewers who must comment on the map need the review workflow, not only the UUID. Review for organisers. What good looks like You copied Sharable link after Auto-save: saved. The municipality opens the UUID, pans to the Utrecht works, zooms in, and reads the signs. They do not see How to?. They cannot open Edit sign on a combination board. Acme Events colleagues who are not the assigned editor can look, and only you (the assigned editor) can change the drawing. You did not paste the URL on a public page. If something blocks you | Situation | Where to go | |-----------|-------------| | Viewer expected to edit | I can’t open or edit a plan | | Plan missing from Plans | My plan does not appear in the list | | Need PDF/Excel instead | Export and print traffic plans | | Wrong person has the pen | Organizations and members | | Review lock | Review for organisers | Related articles - Create, organise, and share traffic plans - Tour of the traffic plan editor - Combination signs - Export and print traffic plans - I can’t open or edit a plan
Request a missing sign or object
Ask Traffic Chart to add a plate or event object that is not in this plan’s catalogue. The request lives in the editor. You do not leave the map. Signs catalogue with Request Item (24h) at the bottom of the panel Use this when you have already searched, expanded every category, and still cannot find the item. Skip it if the country is wrong, if a Combination sign can carry the extra text, or if you only need a different size of something already in the list. A request does not unlock extra free signs. It does not skip checkout. It does not change Country. Keep drawing with the closest catalogue item if the works cannot wait. When you need this Use it on a Traffic Plan when Search traffic signs returns No signs found, or when you know an official code that is missing from this country’s set. Use it on an Event Plan when Search objects... returns No objects found., or when the kit on site has no matching tile. Do not use it to mix national catalogues on one traffic plan. That is a Country problem: Wrong country or missing traffic signs. Do not use it for a custom information board if a Combination sign template already exists. Build that board instead: Combination signs. Find the button The label is not the same on both editors. Match the capital I. Traffic plan — Request Item (24h) 1. Open Traffic Objects. 2. Stay on Signs (the button also stays visible if you switch to Details). 3. Confirm the country list at the top. A toast such as Showing signs for The Netherlands (Nederland) based on traffic plan follows a country change. 4. Type in Search traffic signs. Use Expand all / Collapse all if the list is long. 5. Scroll to the bottom of that panel. 6. Click Request Item (24h). Event plan — Request item (24h) 1. Open Objects. Not Areas. Not Lines & Routes. Not Comments. 2. Type in Search objects.... Empty: No objects found. 3. Use Collapse all / Expand all if categories are folded. 4. Scroll to the bottom of Objects. 5. Click Request item (24h). Note the lowercase i. The (24h) on the button is the reply target. Submit once. Then keep working. If the map is still loading on an event plan, Objects can toast Map is not ready yet. Wait, then open the request. What opens The button opens an in-app request form over the editor. Fill it in this language, then send it. If the form does not appear, email customer@traffic-chart.com from the same account. That is the backup, not a second product. You can also open Help in the strip and use Email support. Same mailbox. What to include Write as if a catalogue editor will add the item tomorrow. Vague “we need a sign” delays the 24h target. Include all of this: - Country of the plan, for example The Netherlands, not “Europe” - Official code if you know it (C43, F19, or the national number on the plate) - A photo of the real plate or object, or a manufacturer drawing - Where it will sit: a Utrecht side street is not a festival field - Whether this is a Traffic Plan or an Event Plan - Typical size in metres for event kit (for example a 2 m × 3 m tent) - The plan URL from the address bar Say what you already tried: the search text, and the closest tile you are using in the meantime. Keep drawing while you wait Do not pause the plan for a missing tile. On a traffic plan, place the nearest legal plate, or build a Combination sign if extra text is the real gap. Search again by code and by description. On an event plan, place the closest Objects type and rename it with Label. Zones, routes, and Add text can mark the spot until the new type exists. Areas, lines, and text still do not count as review objects. If a municipality will review in the app, keep at least one real object on the site. Event objects, areas, and routes. When the item is added to the catalogue, place it yourself. Traffic Chart does not drop it onto Demo traffic plan for you. It does not rewrite stand-ins you already put down. Place the new type and delete the stand-in if you can still edit. What this does not do - It does not raise the free sign cap. The new plate still counts when you place it. I can’t place more signs. - It does not mark the plan Paid. - It does not change Country. - It does not replace municipal review or a legal permit. - It does not add an official road sign to an event plan. Event Objects is site kit. Road plates belong on a Traffic Plan. - It does not add Bulk signs. That is a permission, not a missing plate. Feature not available for my account. Before you request: empty search vs wrong list | What you see | What it usually means | What to do first | |--------------|----------------------|------------------| | No signs found | Search text or collapsed categories | Clear Search traffic signs. Expand those before you decide the type is missing. Steps (worked example) You are drawing Demo traffic plan for a Utrecht side street. The works need a plate whose code you have on paper. Search traffic signs shows No signs found. 1. Confirm the country toast, for example Showing signs for The Netherlands (Nederland) based on traffic plan. 2. Search the code, then the description. Expand all. 3. If a yellow information board would do, open a Combination sign template instead of requesting a new national plate. 4. If it is still missing, scroll to Request Item (24h). 5. In the form, name the country, paste the code, attach a photo, and write “Utrecht side street, traffic plan, temporary plate at the works entrance.” 6. Send once. Place the closest catalogue plate so the drawing can go to the municipality today. 7. If the form never opens, email customer@traffic-chart.com with the plan URL, country, code, and photo. Same idea on an event field: Objects → Request item (24h) → say it is a festival field, not a public road. What good looks like You searched first. The country matches the road authority. The form (or the email) has a code or a photo, and says traffic vs event. Demo traffic plan already has the closest stand-in on the map. Comments, review status, and map notes
Comments is municipal review. It is not a sticky-note pad. Map Review tools are a second, narrower control: only the assigned Traffic expert places Pin, Arrow, and Rectangle on an open session. Comments panel — Place traffic objects to start a review This page names both surfaces, every empty state, and every status card. Who starts the first session, and what to do after Changes requested, is Review for organisers. Reviewer inbox and decisions: Review for reviewers. When you need this Use it when the right-hand Comments strip is open, or when Review tools appear on the left of the map. Skip it if you only need a Copy shareable link or a PDF. That is not an in-app session. Share a plan and read-only view. Skip it for sketch labels. Add text on the map is a drawing. It is not a review comment. Drawing and measuring. You do not start the first in-app review. The municipality does. Two different things A) Organiser Comments (right-hand strip) On a traffic plan the strip includes Traffic Objects, Comments, and Posts. Tooltip when the module is available: Show Comments. Collapse folds the strip. On an event plan the strip is Objects, Areas, Lines & Routes, and Comments. There is no Texts tab. Add text is on the left of the map. Open Comments. The header is Review status. Refresh reloads it (Refreshing while it works). A status pill can read No review yet or Locked for review. This panel is how you see In review by municipality, Changes requested, Plan approved, and Messages from municipality. You do not get Pin, Arrow, or Rectangle here. B) Reviewer Review tools (left of the map) Heading: Review tools. Tools: Pin, Arrow, Rectangle. They appear only when all of this is true: - There is an active request with status Submitted - The current stage is Traffic expert - You are the assigned person on that step Events department never gets these tools. Organisers never get them. A share-link viewer never gets them. Map comment tools Coming soon (some plans still show this) On some plans Comments in the strip is grey and labelled coming soon. Opening it can show: - Comments are almost ready - We are finalizing the new sidebar experience. Comments will unlock after the next release. - Badge coming soon That is the old sidebar path. It is honest: the new panel is not on that plan yet. Map Review tools can still work for the assigned traffic expert on an open session. Organisers on that path cannot use the new Review status card. Follow the municipality’s usual procedure, or a Copy shareable link / PDF, until Comments unlocks. When the panel is on, ignore this section. Empty states (owner) Until there is a session, Comments depends on what is on the map and whether the municipality is connected. No objects yet — traffic - Title: Place traffic objects to start a review - Body: Add at least one traffic object so we can link the right municipality. After placing an object you can return here to send it for review. - Buttons: Refresh / Refreshing, and Place traffic objects No objects yet — event - Title: Place event objects to start a review - Body: Add at least one event object so we can find the right municipality. Event areas, lines, and text do not count for review routing yet. - Buttons: Refresh / Refreshing, and Place event objects Put a real object on the Utrecht site. A camping zone or an Add text label is not enough. Municipality participates, no session yet - Title: Ready to submit? - Body: The municipality has not placed comments yet. Submit your plan through the municipality procedure. For participating municipalities, sharing the plan link is often enough, or you can share a PDF export. - Copy shareable link — toast Link copied to clipboard, or Could not copy the link - Export plan when export is available You still wait for them to click Start review session. If you try to send the first request yourself, the app can say Initial review requests are currently started by the municipality. Submit your plan through the municipality procedure first. Municipality not connected - Title: Municipality not connected yet - Body: Your municipality does not participate in Traffic Chart yet. Submit your plan through the standard procedure on the municipality website. Use their website. A Traffic Chart link can still help them see the drawing. It does not create a dossier. Empty states (reviewer / viewer) When you can start a session, Comments shows: - No active review session - Starting a review session will lock the plan for the owner until you update the status. - Start review session (or Starting...) - Note: You can only start a session if the plan contains at least one traffic object in a municipality you are assigned to. (Event plans need event objects.) Enabled tooltip: Start a new review session and lock the plan for the owner. If Start review session is grey, read the tooltip: | Tooltip | Meaning | |---------|---------| | Save the plan before starting a review session. | Save first | | There is already an active review request for this plan. | Do not start a second session | | Wait until the plan has finished saving or refreshing. | Wait | | The plan has no reviewable objects in a municipality yet. | Place objects in the assigned municipality | | The events department must forward this plan to the traffic expert first. | Events owns the first step | | You are not assigned to the municipality for this plan. | Wrong account for Utrecht (or whichever pin) | If you cannot start anything: No review requests yet for this plan.
