Welcome — how Traffic Chart works
This page is the product in one sitting: what Traffic Chart is, which plan to open, where your work lives, and what “free” actually means. What it is Traffic Chart is a browser app. You draw on a real map, share a live link, and export a PDF when someone needs a file. There is nothing to install. Home after login: Traffic Plan, Event Plan, and recent plans with Home and Plans in the top bar You will spend most of your time in three places: 1. Home — start a new plan, or continue a recent one. 2. Plans — the full library for the workspace you are in. 3. The editor — full-screen map, tools, and sidebar. Those three are easy to mix up. Find your way around is the picture of the top bar. The first time you sign in, First login and onboarding covers Log in, Create your account, and the welcome screens (Creating your account..., Preparing your workspace...). Who it is for Most people here are creating plans: - Event organisers — site layouts, and often the roads that lead there - Contractors and infra teams — temporary traffic measures - Municipalities — drafting plans, and sometimes reviewing submissions If you only review plans for a municipality, skip to Review for organisers or Review for reviewers. The rest of getting started is written for people who draw. Two kinds of plans On Home the heading is What would you like to create? Traffic Plan — public roads: closures, detours, temporary signs, materials lists, post orders for traffic controllers. The sign catalogue follows the Country you set when you create the plan. Wrong country means the wrong signs; you generally start a new plan rather than “switching” a catalogue. Event Plan — the site itself: stages, tents, fencing, zones, walking routes, labels. Event plans do not use the traffic-sign catalogue and do not spend traffic-sign credits. A festival in a park with road closures on the approach is a classic pair: event plan for the field, traffic plan for the public road. Share or submit both according to what your municipality asks for. Where your work lives You always have a Personal workspace. That list is private to you. The library title is My traffic plans / My event plans. If your company or municipality uses Traffic Chart as a team, you may also belong to an organization. That is a separate workspace. Plans there are shared with everyone who has access. The library title is the organization name plus the plan type, for example Acme Events traffic plans. Switch with Switch workspace in the account menu (your initials and first name). Personal uses a P badge. Organizations use orange initials. If a workspace row is greyed out, read the reason on that row: This workspace is not currently available., Your membership is suspended, Organization suspended, Workspace not enabled yet, or Organization unavailable. Public share links can still open; the private workspace cannot until that reason is fixed. Workspace unavailable. Creating a Traffic Plan or Event Plan from Home puts the new plan in whichever workspace you last opened. Check Switch workspace before you start if you meant Personal, or meant the team. On Plans, folders keep the library readable (New folder, Search plans or folders). Folders and the library. You cannot create an organization yourself. An owner invites you. After you accept, you still have to Switch workspace — accepting does not move you automatically. See Join an organization. In an organization, seeing a plan is not the same as editing it. Only the assigned editor can change that plan. Organizations and members. Free use, in one minute Event plans — no traffic-sign credits. Your workspace still needs Event plans turned on. If the Event plans tab says Not enabled for Personal. (or Not enabled for Acme Events.), you cannot create one there. Ask an administrator or email customer@traffic-chart.com. Traffic plans — creating the plan is free. Payment is asked when you place signs past the free allowance, not when you click Start planning. - Outside participating (licensed) municipalities you may place a limited number of signs that count (currently 5). Each plate in a stack counts. - Inside a participating municipality, eligible personal accounts can place unlimited signs without paying for that placement. - You can also spend a credit or pay by card to unlock unlimited signs on that traffic plan. Other unpaid plans keep their own limits. Prices are shown in the app at checkout. They can depend on country and currency. Do not rely on old website copy. Paying for unlimited signs on one plan does not automatically unlock Bulk signs, XL maps, materials Excel, Displace sign stack, or PDF preview. Those are account permissions. Billing, free use, and credits and Feature not available for my account. How people usually work 1. Create an account and verify email. 2. Check you are in the right workspace (Personal or your organization). 3. Start a traffic or event plan with a clear name (and dates / country as asked). 4. Find the location on the map and draw. 5. Wait for Save or Auto-save: saved. 6. Share a Sharable link (recommended for municipalities), or export a PDF if a file is required. 7. If your municipality uses in-app review, they typically start that session. You do not send the first one yourself. Browser and device Traffic Chart is map-heavy and builds PDFs in the browser. - Prefer a current desktop Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. - A laptop or desktop is more comfortable than a phone for drawing and export. - Allow downloads if you export PDFs. - A stable network helps map tiles and export finish cleanly. Older browsers and low-memory machines fail export more often. If a PDF fails, stay on the page and see Export fails or is blank. If the map never appears, see Map will not load or stays blank. Support Email customer@traffic-chart.com. Inside a plan, Help in the sidebar has the same address, Browse the FAQ, and Watch tutorial video. How to? is a short product video (not shown in read-only share view). Home footer: Customer support, FAQ, How-to, Status. Help inside the app and Contact support. What to read next 1. First login and account onboarding
Create account page with Full name, Work email, Confirm password, and Create your account This page walks you from Log in or Create account to the first Home screen, with the labels on every card you meet. Use it the first time you open Traffic Chart, after an invite, or when a marketing “start free” form dropped you on Welcome. Skip it if you already land on Home and only need the top bar — that is Find your way around. Profile, passkeys, and turning 2FA on live in Manage your account. Login page The login page Browser title: Log in. The card on the right has an orange eyebrow Log in and the heading Welcome back. The left column is marketing, not the form. Heading: Create traffic and event plans in minutes. Description: Draw clear plans on the map, share them with stakeholders, and export them directly for use or review. Event plans are completely free; your first traffic plan is free. Four feature tiles: | Title | What it says | |-------|----------------| | Traffic and events | Create free event plans or start with your first free traffic plan. | | All in your browser | Start drawing right away without separate software or installation. | | Share quickly | Collaborate with colleagues, organizers, municipalities, and traffic experts. | | Ready to use | Export clear plans with objects, symbols, dates, and project details. | Top right of the page is a language dropdown. The logo is Traffic Chart. Neither of those signs you in. Sign in with email On the Welcome back card: 1. Enter Email. 2. Enter Password. 3. Optionally tick Remember me so this browser stays signed in. 4. Click Log in. Forgot your password? sits on the same row as Remember me. Top right of the card: New here? Create account. Bottom of the card: New to Traffic Chart? then Create your account. Both open register. Passkey If this browser supports passkeys, a divider or appears under Log in, then Sign in with passkey. Set a passkey later under Settings. Do not expect the button if you have never added one. If the browser prompt fails: Could not sign in with passkey. Please try again or use your password. Use Email and Password instead. When login fails Wrong email or password: These credentials do not match our records. Check Caps Lock. Try Forgot your password? rather than creating a second account. Too many tries: Too many login attempts. Please try again in 60 seconds. The number is the wait the app calculated (it might be 60 seconds, or another count). Wait, then try once. Stuck after that: Email verification and login problems. Create an account From Log in, choose New here? Create account or Create your account. Browser title: Create account. Orange eyebrow: Create account. Heading: Create your account. The left column heading is Create your first traffic or event plan. Description: Draw clear plans on the map, share them with stakeholders, and export them directly for use or review. The note under the tiles is Event plans are completely free. For traffic plans, your first plan is free. The four tiles match login: Traffic and events, All in your browser, Share quickly, Ready to use. On the form: 1. Full name — for example Sam Rivera. 2. Work email. 3. Password. 4. Confirm password. 5. Tick I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. The two titles open in a new tab. 6. Click Create account. Top right of the card: Have an account? Bottom: Already registered? then Log in here. Use one email per person. If the address is already taken, do not invent a second inbox. Go to Log in or Forgot your password? Sign limits and when a traffic plan becomes Paid are in Billing, free use, and credits. Do not treat the marketing line as a quote of today’s price. Forgot password, reset, and first password Forgot your password? opens Forgot Password. Eyebrow Reset password. Heading Forgot your password? Copy: No problem. Enter your email address and we'll send you a password reset link. 1. Enter Email. 2. Click Email Password Reset Link. 3. Success on that page: We have emailed your password reset link. 4. Remember your password? then Log in returns to the login card. The reset page title is Reset Password. Fields: Email, Password, Confirm Password. Submit Reset Password. Success: Your password has been reset. If you wait too long: Please wait before retrying. A stale link: This password reset token is invalid. Unknown inbox: We can't find a user with that email address. Request a fresh mail. Some accounts are created for you (invite or the welcome flow). That mail asks you to finish a password. Page title Create your password. Eyebrow Final step. Heading Create your password. Copy: Your email address is verified. Choose a password to finish setting up your account. Submit Save password. Then sign in. Until that password exists, Log in with a password you never set will fail. Open the email first. Welcome onboarding (marketing “start free”) A marketing form can send you to Welcome with your name and email already in the address bar. You do not fill Create account first. The greeting is Welcome plus your name plus !, for example Welcome Sam Rivera! Status lines you may see while this runs: - Creating your account... - Preparing your workspace... - Logging you in... Under Preparing your workspace... three steps tick through: 1. Create workspace 2. Load symbols & exports 3. Prepare your first plan Wait. Do not open a second tab and register again with the same email. Check your inbox When the account exists but you still need to confirm the address, the heading is Check your inbox. Your account is ready. We have sent a verification email so you can confirm your address and create your password. If you do not see it right away, check your spam folder or wait a moment for delivery. Go to login opens Log in with that email filled in. You still need the mail (and often Create your password) before Log in will succeed. An account already exists Heading: An account already exists. This email address already has an account. Sign in to continue or reset your password if needed. - Go to login - Reset password (opens forgot-password with the email filled in) Do not create a second account. Still working on it If creation takes too long, heading Still working on it. Account creation is taking longer than expected. You can retry, sign in if the account already exists, or register manually. - Try again — restarts the wait - Go to login - Create account — the manual register form, with name and email filled when they were in the link If Try again loops, use Go to login or Create account once, then stop. Duplicate signups for the same person cause more support mail, not a faster workspace. Verify your email After Create account, or after the welcome mail, you may land on Verify your email address. We sent you an email. Open your inbox and click the verification link to continue. - Send verification email again - After a resend: We have sent a new verification email. - Change email address - Sign out The mail itself is also titled Verify your email address. The button in the mail is Verify email address. Expired links open Verification link expired. Eyebrow Verification link. Heading This link has expired. Copy: Verification links are valid for seven days. Enter your email address and we will send you a new link if your account still needs verification or password setup. Field Email. Send a new verification email. After send: If this email address still needs verification or password setup, we have sent a new email. Back to login returns to the login card. Full recovery: Email verification and login problems. Two-factor challenge If 2FA is on, Log in is not finished until this page. Browser title: Two-factor Confirmation. Please confirm access to your account by entering the authentication code provided by your authenticator application. 1. Field Code — the current authenticator code, not a screenshot of an old one. 2. Click Log in. Use a recovery code switches the copy to Please confirm access to your account by entering one of your emergency recovery codes. Field Recovery Code. Use an authentication code switches back. Creating an account on a different inbox looks signed in and then blocks you. Accepting does not switch workspace. Open Switch workspace and pick the organization, or you will still see My traffic plans. Full branches (wrong account, unverified, expired, decline): Join an organization. First Home After a successful Log in, you land on Home. Heading Welcome back, your name, for example Welcome back, Sam Rivera. If the app has no name yet it can say User. The top bar changed. Home, Plans, and your account menu do different jobs. This page is the picture of that chrome: every tab, the logo, Settings, the footer, and why you can see Demo traffic plan without being able to edit it. Use it when you feel lost after login. Skip it if you already have the map open and only need signs — that is the editor, not Home. The four places you will live | Place | What it is | How you get there | |-------|------------|-------------------| | Home | Start a new plan, or continue a recent one | Top bar Home, or the Traffic Chart logo from the plans list | | Plans | The full library for the workspace you are in | Top bar Plans | | Editor | The map where you draw | Open a plan, or finish Start planning | | Reviews | Municipal review inbox (some accounts only) | Top bar Reviews — not your drawing library | The old “dashboard” is Plans. See all plans opens the library for the workspace you are in now. Footer links: Customer support, FAQ, How-to, Status. How-to is the four-minute product video. Status is status.traffic-chart.com. FAQ is this help center. Customer support is the public contact page (you can also mail customer@traffic-chart.com). Home only shows recent work from the current workspace. If Demo traffic plan “vanished”, you are probably still on Personal while it lives in Acme Events — or the other way around. My plan does not appear in the list. The first-run path that lands you here (Creating your account..., Check your inbox) is First login and account onboarding. Plans Plans is the library. The title tells you which workspace you are in: - My traffic plans — Personal - Acme Events traffic plans — team workspace (organization name plus traffic plans) Event library titles follow the same pattern: My event plans or Acme Events event plans. Plans library — folders, search, Create plan If Event plans are on for this workspace, tabs switch between Traffic plans and Event plans. If they are not, the event tab is greyed out and the line under the tabs reads Not enabled for Personal. (or Not enabled for Acme Events.). You cannot create or list event plans there until an administrator enables them. Workspace unavailable or not enabled. From here you search (Search plans or folders), open folders, Create plan / New Event Plan, duplicate, share, or (in an organization) Assign editor. Empty list: No items found. Folders, search, and the ⋮ menu are in Folders, search, and the plans library. In an organization row you may see Editor: Sam Rivera. That is the assigned editor — the only person who can change that plan. Everyone else can still Open it. Home vs Plans vs editor vs Reviews Home is the start screen. It is not a complete list of every plan you ever made. Plans is the complete library for this workspace. Use it when you need a folder, a search, or an older plan that is not in Continue with a previous plan. The editor is full-screen. There is no Home / Plans tab while you draw. Leave it with the Traffic Chart logo (that opens Plans for this plan’s workspace) or with the browser back control. Reviews is only for Events department and traffic-expert accounts. It opens Review dashboard (Track your tasks and municipal dossiers.). It is not where organisers draw. If you do not see Reviews, you do not have a reviewer role — that is expected. Account menu Click your initials and first name (top right). - Switch workspace — Personal (badge P) and each organization you can open (orange initials). Grey rows can say Your membership is suspended, Organization suspended, Workspace not enabled yet, Organization unavailable, This workspace is not currently available., or Suspended. Plans and new plans from Home use that workspace. Accept invitation does not switch workspace — open Switch workspace afterwards. Open the account menu and Switch workspace from Personal to Traffic Chart Demo. Settings Settings has two tabs: - Account — profile, language, password, passkeys, 2FA, sessions. Manage your account. - Organizations — the organisations you belong to. If you are not in any, the tab is visible but disabled: You are not a member of an organization. From Organizations you Open workspace or open Members & access. Empty: No organizations yet. Logo behaviour (easy to miss) - From the editor, the logo takes you back to Plans for that plan’s workspace — not to Home. - From Plans, the logo takes you to Home. If you clicked the logo expecting the map, you are on Plans. Open the plan again. Assigned editor vs seeing a plan Seeing a plan is not editing it. On Plans, anyone with access can Open Demo traffic plan. In Acme Events, only the assigned editor (the row may read Editor: Sam Rivera) can change, duplicate, or delete it. Everyone else gets Plan is read-only in the editor. Sketch tools, Save, and Traffic Objects stay disabled. Tooltip: Plan is read-only. Owners and administrators use Assign editor on the plan menu. If Sam’s membership is Suspended, nobody can edit until someone reassigns the pen. A share link is always read-only, even for the person who created the plan, until they open it from Plans while logged in. If you only need one type of plan, skip the other half. Before you start - Use a current desktop Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. - Know whether you need road signs (Traffic Plan) or a site layout (Event Plan) — or both. - Check Switch workspace. A new plan is created in the workspace you are in now (Personal, or an organization such as Acme Events). Your first traffic plan 1. Create it On Home, under What would you like to create?, choose Traffic Plan. From Plans, Create plan opens the same form. Create a new traffic plan form with Country, Plan name, Start date, End date, and Start planning 1. Set Country * — this loads the correct sign catalogue. Pick the country of the works, not your billing country. 2. Enter Plan name * (placeholder My Traffic Plan). A useful pattern is site + place + year. 3. Set Start date * and End date *. Complete both the date and the time. Start must be before end. Incomplete time shows Complete the start date with a time. (or the end-date equivalent). 4. Click Start planning. The editor opens full-screen. Wait until Opening Map Environment... is gone and the basemap tiles are visible. Do not place signs on a white map. Older plans that never got a country or dates may show Continue your traffic plan and block the editor until you finish those fields. 2. Find the location 1. Click Search address on the left. 2. Type a street or place in Type to search address. 3. Press Enter (or pick a suggestion when shown). 4. Zoom in until placing a sign feels precise. If results are thin, try a fuller address. Confirm Country matches the area you are searching. Zoom, scale, and search in more detail: Search address, zoom, and scale. 3. Place a few signs 1. Open Traffic Objects → Signs. 2. Confirm the country name at the top of the panel. 3. Type in Search traffic signs, or open a category such as Most used, Speed, Roadwork, or Events. 4. Click a sign, then click the map. 5. The selected stack shows Move sign, Rotate sign, Duplicate sign, Remove signs, and (when allowed) Displace sign stack / Edit sign. On the free tier you can place a limited number of signs (currently 5 that count) outside participating municipalities. If the next click is blocked, follow the dialog — do not start a second payment. I can’t place more signs. 4. Optional sketch Use Add line, Add rectangle, Add circle, Add shape, or Add text for a detour hint or work area. Pick Select color first if you care which colour the next drawing uses. 5. Save Watch Auto-save. Hover for Auto-save: saving, Auto-save: unsaved changes, or Auto-save: saved. If auto-save is off, click Save. Wait until it is saved before you send a link. Title, dates, and the save preference: Auto-save, title, and dates. 6. Share or export Click Export. - Sharable link is marked RECOMMENDED. Copy. Many municipalities prefer a live link. - Export files is for PDF (and Excel on some accounts). You must draw at least one export map first. Export and print traffic plans. Create plan on the Plans library starts this same create form. Your first event plan Event plans do not use traffic-sign credits. Your workspace must have Event plans enabled. If Plans → Event plans says Not enabled for Personal. (or Not enabled for Acme Events.), you cannot create one here. Workspace unavailable. 1. On Home, choose Event Plan. Or Plans → Event plans → New Event Plan. 2. Enter Event Name (placeholder Enter the name of your event). 3. Enter Location (city, venue, or address text). 4. Set start and end date/time. End must be after start. 5. Click Start event planning. 6. Wait for the map. 7. Open Objects, pick a type, click the map. If you see Map is not ready yet, wait. 8. Open Areas, choose Polygon, Rectangle, or Circle, draw a zone, set Area Type (for example Camping or Restricted Zone). 9. Open Lines & Routes for a Pedestrian Route or Emergency Route. 10. Labels: click the map tool Add text (it is not a sidebar tab), then click the map and type. 11. Wait for Save / Auto-save. 12. Optional PDF: Export, draw an export area, choose paper size, Export PDF. Full drawing detail: Event objects, areas, and routes. When you need both Road signs on public roads belong on a Traffic Plan. Tents, fences, and visitor flows belong on an Event Plan. Municipalities often want both links. Tips that save a second visit - Fill dates on a traffic plan even if you are “just sketching”. Show Melvin stays disabled until dates are set: Fill in a date to use this option. - Prefer a share link for review. Use PDF when a file is required. - In an organization, the person who created the plan is the assigned editor. Colleagues can open it read-only until an Owner or Administrator uses Assign editor. - Find a plan later on Plans — folders, search, and the table: Folders and the library. - If Signs has no match, Request Item (24h) at the bottom of the catalogue. Help inside the app
This page is where help lives inside Traffic Chart: the editor Help menu, the How to? video, and the Home footer. Use it when you need the next click, not a full chapter. Home footer with Customer support, FAQ, How-to, and Status If you already know the button you want, go to Frequently asked questions or Contact support. Help in the editor Open a traffic plan or event plan. The right strip ends with two support rows under Traffic Objects, Posts, and Comments: - Help - Report bug Click Help. The dialog title is Help. The text is Need a hand with Traffic Chart? Watch our instruction video and check the FAQ. Still have questions? Contact support. Help dialog — Watch tutorial video, Browse the FAQ, Email support, Report bug Four actions follow: | Control | Subtitle | What it does | |---------|----------|----------------| | Watch tutorial video | Get started with Traffic Chart in 4 minutes | Opens the same how-to video as How to? | | Browse the FAQ | frequently asked questions | Opens FAQ in a new tab (same destination as FAQ on Home) | | Email support | customer@traffic-chart.com | Starts an email to support | | Report bug | — | Opens a short in-app form so you can describe what broke | Close with the X. The name is Close help. Report bug is also the second row in the strip, so you can skip the Help dialog when you already know it is a defect. A municipality opening your Sharable link does not get the same Help / How to? chrome you have while editing. How to? — the tutorial video How-to video over Home How-to video over Home How to? opens a YouTube video in the app (How to use Traffic Chart video / How to video tutorial). Close with Close how-to video. It is the four-minute walkthrough: Get started with Traffic Chart in 4 minutes. The control is hidden on a share link and any other read-only view. Guests and colleagues who only have Plan is read-only do not see How to? and cannot auto-open the clip. The share view is for looking, not onboarding. On Home, the footer label is How-to and it plays the same video. In the editor, Help → Watch tutorial video does too. The first time you work in an editable plan, the video can open by itself. After you close it, the browser remembers that choice (for about two months) so it does not keep auto-opening. You can still open it whenever you want from How to?, How-to, or Watch tutorial video. The player is a YouTube embed. If the frame is blank, an ad blocker or a cookie banner may be blocking YouTube. Allow the player for this site, then try Watch tutorial video again. Home footer After login, Home (Welcome back, your name) has four footer links: | Label | Where it goes | |-------|----------------| | Customer support | The public contact page (you can also mail customer@traffic-chart.com) | | FAQ | Frequently asked questions | | How-to | The tutorial video above | | Status | status.traffic-chart.com — incidents and uptime | The same four labels appear on the Continue your traffic plan dates screen if an older plan still needs Country, Plan name, or dates before the editor opens. Status is for outages. If the map is only blank on your machine, start with Map will not load or stays blank. What to put in an email Email support is enough when FAQ and the video do not cover it. Write from the account address, and include: - Workspace name — Personal, or the organization you were in, for example Acme Events (from Switch workspace) - Plan URL from the browser address bar - A screenshot of the dialog, lock, or error - Browser and device (for example Chrome on Windows) - What you clicked, and what you expected Do not pay a second time while you wait on a payment issue. Full checklist: Contact support. What good looks like You can find Help without leaving the map. The tutorial plays when you ask for it, and it stays out of the way after you close it. A share-link viewer never gets the onboarding video. The first time you create an account, onboarding is a separate path (Creating your account..., Check your inbox). That is First login and onboarding, not this Help dialog. Comments on the right strip is municipal review, not this support menu. Comments and review status. Missing catalogue types use Request Item (24h) / Request item (24h) in the drawing sidebar, not Report bug. Request a missing item.
